The 28th Annual Winter Festival and Ice Fishing contest at Grafton Lakes State Park was a big success with an estimated 2,500 people in attendance over the course of the day’s activities.

HFCS Champion Teams Honored Over Weekend

Girls Soccer
On Saturday, January 19, the Hoosick Falls Central School’s 2012 Girls Soccer team gathered to celebrate one last time. The Immaculate Conception Church hall was decorated with poster size photos of each of the team’s seniors. There were championship banners on display and plenty of blue and white. Each senior had framed photos of the season next to her place at the head table. The sign that carried them through the season was prominently displayed. It said, “Dream it Believe it Achieve it!” And, of course, they did!

Panthers Top Schuylerville, Tamarac To Win WASAREN League Title

The Hoosick Falls wrestling team secured their second straight WASAREN League title with wins over Schuylerville on Thursday, January 10, and Tamarac on Thursday, January 17. This is the team’s third title in the past six seasons.

HFCS Basketball Is Spellbound By Witches

The Greenwich Witches road into Hoosick Falls Friday evening to avenge the December 12 54-37 loss to the Panthers. But first, Greenwich Coach Duke Beck watched as the Panther JV worked their own magic to win 59-26.
In the varsity game from the opening tip, won by Greenwich, to the end of the first quarter the fans could tell this was a game they would not soon forget. The first quarter ended 5 – 4 with the Witches up by 1.

Learn To Skate – Registration For Local Skaters
The Hoosick Friends of Skating Club will hold skating lesson registration on Saturday, January 19, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Rcynolds-GiIchrest Skating Rink on Barton Avenue in Hoosick Falls. The Club offers 8 half-hour basic skills lessons in figure and hockey skating fundamentals following the United Stares Figure Skating Association’s “Skate With US” program.
Individuals must be 5 years of age or older to participate. Classes are held twice a week for four weeks on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, starting Wednesday, January 23. The cost tor all 8 lessons is $40 for residents (Town/Village of Hoosick Falls) and S50 for non-residents. There will be a $10 discount tor families with three or more registrants.

Panther Bowlers Take Southern Division Title
HF 4 Hadley-Luzerne 0
The Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Hadley-Luzerne on Thursday, January 10, by the score of 4-0. Total pins for Hoosick Falls were 3,402, and total pins for Hadley-Luzerne were 2,492. Hoosick Falls now has a record of 51-1 and Hadley-Luzerne has a record of 21-35. The top bowler for Hadley-Luzerne was Drew Cirillo with a 196-542.

Resilient Lady Panthers Cheer On

The Lady Panthers received devastating news form Coach Katie DiMaggio between the JV and Varsity basketball games at Tamarac. She announced it would be her last game as coach. The news stunned the squads. Several of the members turned in their uniforms over the next few days. Last year DiMaggio, mother of a member, took over when the previous coach, Terry Milliman resigned during the season.

Mountaineer Volleyball Breaks Even

The Berlin boys volleyball team got off to a fast start with two wins over New Lebanon. Then the team suffered two tough losses, one to Voorhesville and one to Germantown to go to a 2-2 league record.

Panther Boys Basketball Turns Back Late MAU Run

The Varsity Boys Basketball team took the floor after the JV team beat MAU 42 to 26 Monday evening, January 14. Andrew Hoag drew first blood at 7:17, and for the rest of the quarter it was Austin Pitt and Randy Tutunjian who kept scoring. HF led at the end of the first quarter at 11 to 2.

Panther Coach Lilac Hits 250 Win Mark

Coach Mike Lilac received a commemorative blue and white ball honoring his 250th win for the 52-40 victory at Tamarac on January 4. On the 9th, Stillwater’s Coach, Dave Cook, had planned that they would make Lilac wait for #251. Cook scouted the Panthers during their 33-50 loss to Lake George on the 2nd and prepared his team well.
