When the Hoosick Falls Girls Soccer Team headed to Cortland as one of the final four vying for the NY State Soccer Championship last weekend, they were ready. Actually, they were looking forward more to the Saturday game than they were the finals. On Saturday they were playing Friends Academy, the team they shared the Championship title with last year. There would be no sharing this year.

On Friday morning the Panther Boys Soccer team traveled to Middletown to play in the semi-finals of the Final Four for the Class C Boys Soccer Championship Saturday. The 17-5-0 Panthers were matched up against the 21-0-0, Bobcats of Lansing.

Hoosick Falls Boy Scouts Hike Up Mount Greylock

Boy Scout Troop 65 from Hoosick Falls hiked to the 3,491 foot summit of Mt. Greylock located in North Adams, MA, on October 21. The ten mile round trip hike took approximately five and a half hours, and the scouts enjoyed lunch, hot cocoa and extraordinary views at the summit. Yule Log Tradition At The Dyken Pond Center
Celebrate the outdoors this season by enjoying the annual Yule Log Event at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Sunday, December 9. Beginning at 1 pm the story of the Yule Log will be shared, followed by a search for the hidden Yule Log. Guests can then enjoy this informal day at the outdoor campfire or make holiday crafts for the season. There will also be a children’s scavenger hunt as well. People of all ages are encouraged to come out, and don’t forget to bring your sleds! Hot chocolate and light snacks will be provided; feel free to bring your own snacks to share.

Panthers Blow Past Red Storm 20 – 12 In Battle Of Undefeateds; Move To State Semi-Finals

What a game – two 10-0, evenly matched Section champions meeting to determine who would be the Northeast region winner and continue into the State semifinals – two bleachers full of great fans loudly cheering their team – cool air and a warm sun – Hoosick Falls native Doug McCabe up in the booth announcing the game for the opposing team – Hoosick Falls linebacker Mike Mattat playing against his cousin Jonathan McCabe. Late fall football doesn’t get any better than this.

The first half of the Class C State semifinal game played in Stillwater on Saturday, November 10, was a nail-biter. It was a gorgeous warm day, but Hoosick Falls fans didn’t notice as they sat on the edge of their seats. The halftime score was 0-0.

The Panther Boys, Section 2 Champions, ventured to Plattsburg to face Lake Placid High, Section 7 Champions. Both teams took the pitch looking to continue their seasons to get to the New York State Semi-Finals in Middletown on Saturday, November 17.

HooRWA Turkey Trot
On Saturday, November 24, at 10 am there will be a Turkey Trot, or Take-a-Walk, on the Hoosic River Greenway in Hoosick Falls for young, for old, for families, for everyone! Walk off that Thanksgiving dinner and explore the Hoosic River Greenway, including its newly resurfaced southern section, and the nearby Hoosic River. Meet at the old Water Works off Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls at 10 am. Really wet weather will cancel the event. This event is sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association and the Village of Hoosick Falls.
