The Rensselaer County Soil & Water Conservation District’s Annual Fish Stocking Program is currently taking orders for rainbow and brook trout as well as largemouth bass, channel catfish, fathead minnows and crayfish. Call the Conservation District at 518-271-1740 for an order form with more information on stocking. Orders will be taken up to October 5 with the distribution to be held on Friday, October 12, at 1 pm.

The Hoosick Falls Central School Golf Team has had three matches so far this week. They play again on Thursday, August 23, and the following Monday.
On Wednesday, August 22, the Team played Greenwich on their home course – the Battenkill. HF lost 1½ to 3½. Coach Pam Hatfield said, “The good news is that Andrew Hoag was the medalist. Also, Hoag and Josh Reveal both shot sectional scores, which is 8 or less over par. Congrats to these two players!”

Bring Your Happy Feet To The Great Schaghticoke Fair
March, skip or dance your way into the great Schaghticoke Fair, Wednesday, August 29, through Monday, September 3. The first ever fair-wide theme will be introduced at the 193rd annual fair. The idea was originated by Homemaking Superintendent, Marilou Town, and Flowers Superintendent, Nancy O’Donnell. The idea of having a fair-wide theme originated in the Family Living Center last year when creative exhibits and entries were displayed. With support from other building superintendents the concept quickly caught on and throughout the week of the fair, there will be Happy Feet signage displayed all over the various buildings and barns. A scavenger hunt for the children will take place daily with information provided at the Family Living Center.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics is this year’s Title Sponsor for the Hoosic River Bike Ride. Almost 200 bicyclists participate in the annual event, which is sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA). The ride has four different routes of various lengths and degrees of difficulty which allow riders to explore the Vermont, Massachusetts and New York watersheds, farms, forests, covered bridges and historic settlements via mostly secondary back roads. 27th Annual Run For The Roses At Grafton Lakes State Park – Winners And Local Finishers
Runners headed off from a new “START” banner that recognized the race as a Tom Conklin legacy. Conklin was the manager of Grafton Lakes State Park for 22 years who passed away almost a year ago, having initiated the Run for the Roses during his tenure as well as many other park events. Lindsay Kuhn of Smoke Ridge Organic Farm in Bloomfield, NY, about 20 miles southeast of Rochester, had a long drive to reach the New Lebanon Library on Thursday, August 9. She arrived to a room filled with youngsters and adults of all ages anxious to learn more about butterflies.
