The 27th Annual Run For The Roses
The 27th annual “Run for the Roses” will take place on Sunday, August 12, at Grafton Lakes State Park in Grafton. Events include a 5k foot race, 2.5 mile scenic nature walk and a kids’ 1 mile fun run. Proceeds will benefit the Grafton Community Library and the Courtney Carelli Foundation for Literacy.
A medal and a bouquet of roses will be awarded to the top male and female runners. All entrants receive a T-shirt and a book. The first 150 pre-registrants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt. Entrants for all events may pick up their packets at the Park’s main parking lot on the day of the race. Lake Lauderdale Improvement Association’s 16th Annual Young Angler Fishing Tournament
The L.L.I.A.’s 16th annual children’s fishing tournament will take place on Sunday, August 19, at the Washington County Park Pavilion on beautiful Lake Lauderdale. The tournament is free and open to all young anglers age 15 and under. The tournament runs from 8 to 10:30 am and concludes with a free hot dog lunch for all participants. As always, there will be no fee charged to children entering the contest. Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided to all young anglers.

A Huge Turnout For The Annual Hoosick Youth Wrestling Tournament

Mike LaPorte, assisted by Chris Marsh and a big crew of volunteers, had a busy weekend on July 28 and 29. They hosted the third Annual Hoosick Youth Wrestling Tournament. Twelve teams of 16 youngsters each, ages 14 and under competed. The teams participated in eight matches over the two days. Troop 222 has just returned from a very successful week at summer camp. The Troop went to Rotary Scout Reservation in East Poestenkill where they participated in many fun scouting activities.

The Taconic Valley Soccer Club Registration Ends August 13
The Taconic Valley Soccer Club is accepting Fall registrations for kindergarten through grade six. The registration fee is $35. The TVSC will waive any late fees at this time. No registrations will be accepted after August 13. Send your application and check to TVSC, P.O. Box 456, Berlin, NY, 12022.
Opening Day is September 8 at the Berlin Elementary at 9 am. Be ready to play soccer.

Chickens From Around The World
New Lebanon Library will present the workshop Chickens from Around the World on Friday, August 10, at 2 pm. This event, which is free and open to the public, is appropriate for children, although patrons of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Lindsay Kuhn of Smoke Ridge Organics Farm will introduce fifteen live, leashed chickens from around the world – speckled Sussex from England, blue Andalusians from Spain, glossy black Sumatras, araucana from South America, cuckoo maran from France and others who lay different colors and sizes of eggs. Participants will learn the history and unique characteristics of these breeds, along with basic animal husbandry skills. Children will be allowed to pet the chickens, too.

The War And Women
Take a trip back in time at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site and discover what life was like for women during the Revolutionary War. The summer program titled “The War and Women” will be held on Sunday, August 5, at 2 pm and will take a look in to women’s lives during the Revolutionary War, including learning the language of the fan and a traditional craft. Come prepared for a hands-on experience to discover what life was like way back when.
This is an introductory class ideal for the whole family. There is a $2.00 program fee per person or $5 per family.

Habitat In A Jar At GLSP
Grafton Lakes State Park will host an educational program, “Habitat in a Jar,” at 2 pm on Sunday, August 4. Participants will learn about the habitat needs of various animals that call the Rensselaer Plateau home, explore nearby wetlands and build their own self-sustaining habitat to take home.
The program meets at the Park Office. Space is limited so please pre-register.
