The family of Ed Carknard is now gearing up for the 2012 EC Golf Scramble at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Saturday, August 11. The EC Fund supports the Hoosick Wrestling Club, Youth Football, Field Hockey Camps, Traveling Basketball, Bowling, Youth Cheerleading, Basketball Camp, Youth Baseball, Youth Soccer and high school Baseball and Football. It also offers community youth golf opportunities, provides uniforms for St. Mary’s athletes and footwear for kids participating in any sport. The EC fund contributes to the Youth Center and has provided funds to the girls soccer team for their trip to Europe.
The 2011 Golf Scramble was a great success. Over 150 people participated, making it the most successful event to date. Hopefully this year will be even better.

SMA Golf Scramble
The 2012 Annual St. Mary’s Academy Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, August 3, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. The event is Scramble Format/Shot Gun Starts with 8 am or 1 pm tee times. Cost is $70 per person with four person teams and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and light fair dinner. Spectators are welcome to watch the fun and enjoy lunch and dinner for $10.

First Annual Fall Sports Fest In Hoosick
Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, Golf, Cheer… come play your sport! The First Annual Fall Sports Fest will be held on Saturday, August 4, at the George Helft Soccer Complex on South St. in Hoosick. An entry fee of $20 covers all activities. The event will benefit the Hoosick Falls Central School Varsity Club, Hoosick Falls Soccer Club and the Ed Carknard Fund.

• Saturday, July 21 – Wild Edible Plants and a Meal with Lee Wilson, 10 am to 4 pm. Learn identification of wild edible plants, foraging technique and etiquette, poisonous look-alikes and meal preparation; for older teens and adults, experienced and novice. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 15 and fills quickly. The cost is $15, $10 for members.

Bats For Kids At Dyken Pond
The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is offering a Junior Naturalist Series this summer for kids of all ages through August 28. Each Tuesday afternoon program will offer a different theme and will run from 1 to 3 pm. Each program offers nature activities and usually a small craft to take home. Rescheduled Mount Greylock HooRWA Hike
Saturday, July 14 – HooRWA president Lauren Stevens will lead his annual re-creation of Thoreau’s hike up Mt. Greylock. Meet at the Notch Road gate to the Greylock Reservation at 10 am. Or, if you wish to drive down rather than hike down, meet at the Notch Road gate at 9 am to organize a shuttle. Bring lunch and water. Dress appropriately for this 11 mile round trip.

Grafton’s Dickinson Hill Fire Tower Is Open To The Public

On Monday, June 25, the Dickinson Hill Fire Tower at Grafton Lakes State Park was opened to the public with a celebration and a ribbon cutting. Rose Harvey, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, was at the Fire Tower ceremony to meet and celebrate with all those who have stepped forward to support the restoration of the tower and help ensure its future.
