The 3rd Annual Hoosick Falls 10U and 12U mid-season softball tournament was held on June 8 – 10. The mid-season tournament was started to allow all league players the chance to play in a fun and competitive style tournament. The weather turned out great; the games were very competitive; the parking lots were packed, and the parents and spectators in attendance were treated to excellent softball games.

Elite Runner Visits Elementary School Students At HFCS

On Friday, June 1, fifth and sixth grade students at HFCS had an opportunity to ask questions of elite runner Lisa Harvey of Vancouver, British Columbia. She spoke with them in the high school auditorium. Harvey was in the area for the 34th Annual Freihofer’s Run for Women last Saturday, June 2. Not The Panthers’ Day In The Sectional Finals

The HFCS Panthers faced the Voorheesville Blackbirds in the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy for the Section II Class C finals on May 31, a beautiful day for a baseball game. Each team had faced an uphill battle just to be in the game, with Hoosick Falls seeded sixth and Voorheesville seeded eighth. Both teams were excited just to be playing in the final at the spacious stadium, and each team had a nice showing of fans. At the end of the game though, Voorheesville was the victor, recording a 6 – 1 win over the Panthers.

Grafton Lakes State Park Hosts Nationals Trails Day

On National Trails Day on Saturday, June 2, 75 hardy, enthusiastic people showed up despite the rainy, cold weather. Trail work support came from the Capital MTB, Grafton Trail Riders, Boy Scouts, Hannaford, Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park, Student Conservation Association and a strong group of other community members. Wild Edibles Walk In Hoosick
The Hoosic River Watershed Association is sponsoring a Wild Edibles Walk on Wednesday, June 13, from 6 to 8 pm at the Tilldale Farm in Hoosick. The public is invited to join Russ Cohen, expert forager and author of Wild Plants I Have Known and Eaten, for a walk on an organic farm and along an abandoned rail line near the Hoosic River to learn about identifying, harvesting and preparing several species of wild edibles. Meet at the farm, on Tilley Lane just west of the traffic light at NY Rt. 7 and County Rt. 95 in the hamlet of Hoosick.
Timber Harvesting And Chestnut Restoration Tour
The public is invited to attend a special two part forestry event on Saturday, June 16, starting at 10 am at 231 Brainard Road, Averill Park to see how locally grown timber is sustainably harvested on the Rensselaer Plateau. This logging operation is managed by LandVest for the Forestland Group (former Cowee property). The harvest is being done by a local contractor and is intended to increase growth on residual crop trees while also starting a new forest of oak, pine and hemlock. HFCS Baseball Plays Way Into Championship Game At Bruno Stadium

The Panther baseball team, ranked 6th in sectional seeding, traveled to Amsterdam last Saturday to take on the number 2 seed Rensselaer Rams at Shuttleworth Stadium. Although it took a bit for the team get going, the boys ended the game with a big win, 17 – 1.
