Dyken Pond June Events

June 2
•National Trails Day – 9 am to 12 noon; volunteer for trail clean-up, 9 am – coffee and registration, 9:30 – 12 – trail work, 12 noon – free barbecue for all volunteers, Pre-registration is required for the barbecue so we can plan enough food.
• Full Strawberry Moon Hike with Lisa Hoyt – 7 pm; twilight hike finishing with a campfire under the almost full moon. Bring a snack and or drink for the campfire. This event is free. No pre-registration is needed.
June 3
• Camo Camp  with Dan Yacobellis – 9:30 am to 3:30 pm; learn to move unnoticed and in shadows; camouflage using color, movement and sound; experiment with technique and then practice in forest exercises. This training is useful for hunters, nature photographers and wildlife watchers and is just fun. this event is for ages 9 and older and adults. Pre-registration is required, and the group is limited to 15 people. The fee is $10, $5 for members.
June 23
• Primitive Fire Making with Dan Yacobellis – 9:30 am to 3:30 pm; learn primitive fire building techniques. Participants will make their own bow-drill set. Pre-registration is required, and the group is limited to 15 people. The fee is $15, $10 for members.

Petersburgh Troop 222 Helps Clean Up Trails At GLSP

Boy Scouts from Troop 222 Petersburgh helped the Grafton Lake State Park over the weekend of May 4-6. Nine Boy Scouts, their Leaders and some family members cleaned out the woods at the Park. Grafton Lakes State Park was the site of a Scout invasion – over 200 Boy Scouts camped, cleaned and had a fun filled weekend in the Park. Gladioli And Whiskey Barrels

It’s that time of year again, when the Berlin Beautification Committee (BBC) plants gladioli all along Rt. 22 in Berlin.  If any Berlin resident is interested in planting their own gladioli on their property, we would like to time it so that everything is blooming at once.  This year, we are planting the bulbs Wednesday and Thursday, May 23 and 24.

Run For The Rhubarb

The Second Annual Run for the Rhubarb will be held on Sunday, May 20, at 9 am in Shatford Park in New Lebanon. There will be a 5k race, a Kids Run, a 5k Walk, a Moving Sale, food and fun activities for the family. This is a fundraiser for the Mountain Road School.

A Few Places Left For The Ken Baker Golf Tournament

The fifth annual Ken Baker Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. The tournament will raise funds for the Coach Baker Fund which benefits the youth of both Hoosick Falls and Cambridge.

The Great American Pet Festival

Calling one, calling all pet owners. The Schaghticoke Fair is proud to announce the 5th Annual Great American Pet Festival to be held on Sunday, May 20, at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, from 10 am until 3 pm. The festival, sponsored by PETCO, will feature give-a ways, pet groomers, on-site pet adoptions, Save-A-Bull, vendors, rescue groups, raffles, demonstrations (including dog agility), 4-H information, a lecture from Alternative Animal Care Therapies and more. The Chicks n’ Chaps Drill team will be performing throughout the day.

• May 20, Sunday – Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis. Registration for this 1km fundraising walk begins at 11 am. For more information about the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the event, please call CFF at 783-7361.
• May 20, Sunday – Trail Work Day at Cherry Plain State Park from 9 am to 12 pm. Join the Friends of Cherry Plain State Park for a morning in the outdoors getting the Park and the surrounding DEC Wildlife Management Area’s trails ready for a summer of visitors.

Hoosic River Riverfest Is On May 26

Riverfest, the annual celebration of the Hoosic River sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA), will be held at Cole Field on the Williams College campus from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 26.  Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the gate per person. Children 10 and under will be admitted free.

Sportsmen’s Flea Market

The Owlkill Rod & Gun Club will hold its spring 2012 Sportsmen’s Flea Market on Saturday, May 26, from 9 am to 4 pm at the Owlkill Club House and grounds with vendor set-up beginning at 8 am.  The facility is located just off Route 22 approximately 4 miles south of the village of Cambridge.  Look for signs.
