by Ryan Mosher
While Hoosick Falls was talking about upsets following the 13th seeded girls basketball team’s back to back upsets in their sectional tournament, the boys team had to work especially hard to avoid becoming a victim of the upset as well. The Panthers played a pesky Rensselaer team, seeded 9th, at Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Early Start On Syrup Season In Hoosick

March 2, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
On Monday, February 27, smoke was coming from the Running Brook Sugar Shack in Hoosick. Dick Ogden and his brother Walter were boiling maple syrup. Dick said they have boiled sap at least a dozen times in February, which is rare. Last year, he said, he doesn’t think they boiled twice in February. “We’ve been getting a nice light amber syrup up to this point,” he said. “It’s only now we’re getting the medium amber.” He expects the season will go on for a while yet… it all depends, of course, on the weather.

Lady Panthers Stun Witches In Sectional Upset

February 24, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
After they finished the regular season in sixth place in the Wasaren League with a 7-11 record and seeded 13th in the Class C Sectionals, most people may have figured the Hoosick Falls Lady Panthers would close out their season on Tuesday night. And playing at the fourth seeded Greenwich Witches, who already handed them two 20 point losses, did not encourage most to believe the upset could happen. The Lady Panthers apparently were too busy preparing to get that memo though, stunning the Witches on their home court and pulling off the 44-42 first round victory.

Panthers Pound Cambridge For Third Time

February 24, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
The third time wasn’t the charm for the Cambridge boys basketball team. The third time playing Hoosick Falls turned out to be pretty much just like the last two times, lopsided Panther victories. The only difference was that this one ended the Indians’ season while propelling Hoosick Falls into the Class C Quarterfinals.
