NCAA Division II 2011 Coach of the Year Laurie Darling Gutheil was the guest speaker at the HFCS Girls Soccer banquet on Sunday, January 29. This year Gutheil coached her St. Rose women’s soccer team to the school’s first ever National Championship in Division 2. Their record was 24-1-1. She said her team was focused from day one.

Dramatic Pin Gives Panthers Ken Baker Classic WASAREN League Title

In a full day of wrestling between 11 teams and over 100 wrestlers, what are the chances that the team championship would come down to one match towards the end of the finals. Well that is just what happened Saturday at the Wasaren League Ken Baker Classic at Hoosick Falls.

Lilac Ties School Record On A Career Performance

Tuesday night was a very special night for Alex Lilac. Hoosick Falls’ senior point guard was getting his one and only opportunity to play on the basketball court at Stillwater, which was named for his grandfather, Hall of Fame coach Mike Lilac. It was also an opportunity for Lilac and his teammates to make their final push to win another Wasaren League title. The SUNY Cortland bound senior rose to the occasion and put on a show for everyone.

HFCS Bowlers Win Adirondack League Tournament; Beat Archrivals
On Tuesday, January 31, the Hoosick Falls bowling team won the Adirondack League Tournament by beating its archrival, Fort Edward, at the Broadway Lanes in Fort Edward with a total pin count of 3,077 for five bowlers. Second Half Surge Carry Panthers Past Cambridge

The Hoosick Falls boys basketball team ran into one of their toughest games of the year last Friday night against an unlikely opponent. Cambridge has had a less than stellar season thus far, having just one victory over Tamarac to their credit. On Friday the two rival schools faced off and, for almost three quarters, played a game that did not have the feel of the top and bottom teams in the standings.

Snow Was Perfect For The 27th Annual Winter Fest

The morning snowfall came just in time. Saturday’s snow created the perfect backdrop to another successful Winter Fest. For 27 years, Grafton Lakes State Park’s Winter Festival has been the highlight of the usually dormant winter season by offering outdoor enjoyment and free entertainment for the whole family.

Panthers Avenge Loss To Stay On Top Of The Wasaren League

Despite a slow start in Greenwich on Friday night, the Hoosick Falls boys basketball team avenged its only loss of the season thus far in convincing fashion, with a 62-48 win.
The game’s final score was actually closer than the game actually was, as the Witches’ Joe Estramonte went on a tear in the fourth quarter, trying to single-handedly bring his team back into the game. Mountaineers Split Games With Heatly, Waterford

This past week the Berlin boys basketball team split games with Heatly and Waterford in Central Hudson Valley League action. First, against Heatly, the Mountaineers came out charging, taking a 21-4 lead in the first quarter, one of their strongest individual quarters of the entire season.
The Mountaineers held off a charge by the Hornets in the second and third quarters, holding the lead the entire time. In the end, led by three players in double digits, Berlin won 58-42. Seth Hawk scored 15 points, Cullen O’Brien had 14 and Tyler Bacon had 13 points.

Skating Has Begun At Shatford Park
New Lebanon Town Clerk Colleen Teal reports that the ice skating rink at the pavilion at Shatford Park is frozen and ready for use. Lights will be on nightly from 5 to 10:30 pm. Enjoy!
