Panther Matmen Go 3-2 At Burgher Duals

Facing off against teams from elsewhere in Section II and beyond, the Hoosick Falls wrestling team went 3-2 at the Burgher Duals on Saturday, January 7, in Warrensburg. The Panthers recorded wins over Beekmantown, Albany Academy and Morrisville Eaton while falling to host Warrensburg and Hudson Falls.

Petersburgh Ice Fishing Derby
The Petersburgh Rod & Gun Club is sponsoring an ice fishing derby on January 28 from 6 am to 3 pm on Dyken Pond and South Long Pond. Prizes will be awarded at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Hall at 5 pm.
The entry fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Register at the Dam or pre-register at Papa’s Pizza, Vonadeau Wine & Spirits or the Stephentown Hotel. Parking is available at the Dyken Pond Environmental Center. Come join the fun! If you have questions, call 207-7518.
Taconic Valley Soccer Club Spring Travel Team Registration
The Taconic Valley Soccer Club has reopened its rosters for the upcoming Spring travel teams. If you want to play during the Spring season there is still time to register until January 20. The following teams are still looking for a few players: U12 girls, U14 girls, U16 boys and U17 girls.

The Polar Plunge At GLSP Benefits Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Applications are now being accepted for participants in the fifth Annual Polar Plunge in Long Pond as part of Grafton Lakes State Park’s Winter Fest. The Winter Fest is in its 27th year with events occurring all day, January 21. The plunge happens promptly at 1 pm with check-in beginning at noon.

GLSP Ice Fishing Contest
Grafton Lakes State Park and the Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park will host an annual Ice Fishing Contest as part of their 27th Winter Festival on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The ice fishing contest will run from 5 am to 3 pm on all the ponds in the Park. This year the contest will offer a $500 grand prize to the longest fish. Prizes are also awarded for the top three lengths of trout, walleye/pickerel and yellow perch for both adults and youth 15 and under.

Local Dirtbike Racer Wins Grand Championship For 2011

Tanner Wolfrum, a 12 year old seventh-grader at Hoosick Falls Central School, took his first solo ride on a PW50 at a little over two years old and has been racing dirt bikes since 2007. He is a member of the Stateline Riders Motorcycle Club, New England Trail Riders Association (NETRA) and AMA, competing in Hare Scrambles, Jr. Enduros, Motocross and Super Moto races.

Panthers Dominate Bengals On Mat

The Hoosick Falls wrestling team traveled to Tamarac High School on Friday, December 30, for its only match over the Christmas break. The Panthers made the one match worth their time as they won 58-15 against their Wasaren League opponent.

Panther Bowlers Win Two More
The Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Whitehall on Wednesday, December 21, by the score of 4-0. Hoosick Falls now has a record of 31-1 and Whitehall now has a record of 6-18. The top bowler for Whitehall was Rich Tisi with a 233-609. The top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Josh McCart 279-697, Josh Conn 215-636, Joe Wolfrum 259-614, Bryan Callahan 236-601, Mitch Andrew 202-591 and Mikaela Marbot 209-534. The top JV bowlers were Jordan Colvin 214-565, Ken Marbot 201-547 and Stephen Surdam 204-543.
