Grafton Lakes State Park will offer a variety of activities for nature lovers, beachgoers and outdoor enthusiasts as summer begins. Try your hand at fishing, look for and identify rare plants, observe the night sky or take a dip in the cool waters at Grafton Lakes State Park at one of several park events scheduled for the last weekend in June.

Dyken Pond Summer Camp Scholarships
Camp scholarships are still available for the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center’s Summer Outdoor Learning Adventure (SOLA). These week long day camps provide age appropriate activities in ecology, wildlife and outdoor living skills. Games, hikes and hands-on discoveries will give campers a lifetime of memories.
Camps run from mid-July to mid-August depending on age. Scholarship applications, camp schedules and details can be downloaded at www.dykenpond.org or by contacting the Center at 518-658-2055 or dykenpond@fairpoint.net.
Mike Brewster One Of Eleven Honored By The National Football Foundation

The 2010 Capital District Chapter of the National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame narrowed its field of candidates from 61 to 11 for its annual Scholar-Athlete Dinner at the Turf Inn on May 9. HFCS football team tri-captain and quarterback Mike Brewster was one of ten sectional players and one college program player honored that night. The event recognized the achievements of these athletes on and off the field.

Panther Softball Falls Short In Sectional Finals
BCANY Academic All State Boys Team 2010-2011
The following basketball players from HFCS were named to the New Balance-Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc, Academic All State Team for 2010-11. In order to qualify a player had to be a junior or senior on the varsity basketball team with a minimum scholastic average of 90 and must have been named as a 1st or 2nd team All Star by their league or section or local media. The Academic All State selections from Hoosick Falls are Alex Lilac, Quinn Rasmus and Tanner Williams.
In addition the HFCS Boys team was selected as a BCANY Boys Team Academic All State from Section II. This is ascertained by using the academic average for the team.
The New Lebanon Farmers Market Opens For The Season On Sunday
The Lebanon Valley Farmers Market will celebrate its Season Opening on Sunday, June 12, from 10 am to 2 pm on Routes 20 and 22 (501 Route 20) in the center of Town. This is a producer only market offering locally grown produce, meats, cheese, bread and handcrafted goods.

National Trails Day A Success
On Saturday, June 4, forty-five volunteers turned out to improve the trails at Grafton Lakes State Park and enjoy a day in the outdoors. The Taconic Hiking Club, Grafton Trail Riders, Capital MTB, Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park members, families and friends worked on six different trails throughout the Park. Downed trees from this year’s many windy storms were cut and cleared from trails; raking and trail marking were completed, and litter was gathered from shorelines.
