Meetings On The Uses Of The Rensselaer Plateau

The Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, New York Forest Owners Association (Capital District Chapter), Trout Unlimited (Home Waters) and the Black River Raiders are hosting two meetings about the places that matter most to the people of the Rensselaer Plateau. Cambridge Area Branch, WNF&GA Plant Sale

On Saturday, May 14, the Cambridge Area Branch of the Woman’s National Farm and Garden will hold its annual plant sale.  The sale will be held on the lawn of the Cambridge Methodist Church (next to the Post Office) from 9 am to noon.
A variety of perennials and annuals, including geraniums in full bloom, will be available. Also for sale will be Booth’s Blend, a must for every gardener.  Come early for the best selection and support the Farm and Garden in this their main fund-raiser. The sale will take place rain or shine.

Petersburgh Rod and Gun Club Annual Turkey Shoot

The Petersburgh Rod and Gun Club annual turkey shoots will be held on May 15 and May 22  (rain date June 5 ) at the Petersburgh Rod and Gun Club on Scriven Road.  The event starts at noon. Spend an afternoon filled with fun, food (hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade pies) and raffles, just to mention a few. Families are encouraged. We will also be holding our summer long 50/50 raffle.  Remember shotguns and rifles only (no 10 gauge  shotguns). Hope to see you there! If you have questions, call 283-4890.

Capital District Friday Field Group Outings

The Capital District Friday Field Group is a mix of amateur and professional naturalists formed in 1994 that meets weekly on Fridays at 5:30 pm between April and September to explore natural features of sites in the Capital Region.  The trips are free and all are welcome.  Upcoming trips of the group in Rensselaer County planned for the 2011 season, all on the Rensselaer Plateau, include:

The Albany Area Amateur Astronomers will hold a Starwatch at Grafton Lakes State Park on Friday, May 6, at 8:30 pm. Hoosick Fire Department Captures Friday National Bowling League Championship

In A Roll Off The Hoosick Fire Department captured the championship in the Friday National League at the Barbecue Recreation this past Sunday with a win over Beck Farms in the roll-off. Beck Farms earned a chance at the title by defeating the Barbecue Recreation team in the first round of play by the total pinfall score of 2787 to 2713. The Hoosick Fire Department earned a bye in the first round by virtue of winning a third and having the best overall wins for the year.
