Summer Camp
Registration is now open for our summer nature camp for youth aged 6 – 14 at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Our summer camp is officially the “Summer Outdoor Learning Adventure” or SOLA for short. Summer camp has all the fun of kids being in the outdoors along with exploring exciting habitats, discovering amazing creatures and plants of the natural world, campfires, games and making new friends. Kids hardly realize that they are also learning ecology, science skills, creative thinking and problem solving as well!

On Sunday, March 6, Joe Wolfrum, from Hoosick Falls Central School, bowled for the Section II team in Syracuse. The team finished in 7th place out of ten teams with a total score for six games of 5,600 pins, under difficult lane conditions. Woodlot Owner Workshop On The Rensselaer Plateau
“The Future of Your Woods and Wildlife: More Resources and Tools For Landowners” is the title of a workshop to be held in Sand Lake on Saturday, March 19. Private lands on the Plateau contribute to the overall ecological health of the larger landscape through stewardship that supports forest regeneration, wildlife populations and movement and high-quality forests and wetlands.

Sutton Wins Wrestling State Championship

Three local high school wrestlers competed at the New York State Wrestling Championships this past weekend with one of them ending his weekend standing on the top podium at the Times Union Center in Albany. LaSalle Junior Connor Sutton of West Hoosick won the Division 1, 140 pound championship after entering the tournament as the number three seed. Brad Burns and Louis Weierbach of Hoosick Falls competed in the Division 2 tournament.

The Hoosick Falls boys basketball team kicked off their postseason with a quarterfinal match up at Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday against #9 seed Taconic Hills. The Titans beat #8 Maple Hill to earn the right to play the top seeded Panthers.

Panther Girls Basketball – Exceeding Expectations

“We exceeded the expectations of many people,” said HFCS girls basketball coach Eamonn DeGraaf. “But we fell one game short of our goal of .500.” The girls team, which didn’t have a single victory last year, ended the season 9-11, 4-9 in league play. “We set a goal of one game at a time. We went a month without a win, but the girls didn’t quit. Then we had a big win over Argyle,” DeGraaf said. In the first half of the season, he said, they were 1-6 in league play. They were 4-3 the second half.
