The Rensselaer Land Trust will sponsor a seine net fishing event to celebrate the Hudson River Estuary Program’s fourth annual Great Hudson Estuary Fish Count on Saturday, August 15. The event will be held from 11 am. until 1 pm at the main boat launch on the Hudson River at Schodack Island State Park. As part of Trout Unlimited’s Women’s Initiative, the Homewaters Chapter, located in eastern Rensselaer County, kicked off a Women’s Group earlier this year. The group started the season in May with an on-the-water fishing trip on the Little Hoosic River where eight women participated. Some had experience with fishing, but most were new to the sport. I think it is safe to say that everyone had a fantastic time. A lot of learning, a few fish, and a lot of fun! We are now planning another excursion for our Women’s Group for early August. At noon on Saturday, June 20, the Weir Reynolds Community Pool reopened with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Hoosick Town Supervisor Mark Surdam welcomed the large crowd that turned out for the event. He thanked everyone involved in the restoration of the beautiful pool, especially Richard Laberge and other members of The Laberge Group and the William L. Watson Co., that rebuilt the pool.
