HFCS Bowlers Win First Match

November 28, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Coach Bob Lang

The Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Schuylerville, 3-1, in a non-league match for their first match of the season. Hoosick Falls had total match pins of 3,215, and Schuylerville had total match pins of 2,906. Schuylerville is now a member of the Foothills League and has an overall record of 5-7.

Top bowler for Schuylerville was Carter Fritch with a 266-640. Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Josh McCart 256-676, Ken Marbot 201-584, Jennifer Sargood 193-556 and Kyla Day 186-519. Other good scores from JV and Exhibition bowlers were William Charbonneau 184-464, Matt Bulson 160-462, James Hynd 152-440 and Meghan Backes 156-426.

“This was a good warmup match to get ready for league play which starts Tuesday, December 2, home, against Hoosic Valley. We won the first two games and then had trouble making spares in the third game and ended up losing that game by 23 pins. The team knows that we have a lot of work to do over the weeks to come, and making spares is one thing that we will have to improve on if we are to be successful,” said Coach Lang.

Panthers Run Over Red Storm, 24 – 6

November 21, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

Last Saturday the Hoosick Falls Panthers made a run up the Northway to play the Saranac Lake Red Storm. It was cold with a bit of a breeze, but the fans made the almost three hour trip. Everyone must have been dressed for the thirty degree temperature, as everyone stayed in their seats until the end.

The Storm came into the game with a 9 – 0 record and the stats to back it up. On paper they were a good passing team and an average running team. Saranac Lake and Hoosick Falls are familiar foes who only meet as sectional champions, so it’s always a good game.

November 14, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Kieron Kramer

The Rensselaer County Legislature held its November regular meeting on Wednesday evening instead of the usual Tuesday because of the Veterans Day Holiday. Three resolutions commending Eastwick residents for their achievements were presented as was a resolution in memory of Berlin’s Maurice L. “Kipper” Maxon.

Most town supervisors, who are in the throes of developing the 2015 town budgets while paring down the property tax levy increases, will be interested in the resolution providing for the distribution of mortgage tax to the towns.
