Winter Wow – Polar Plungers At GLSP To Benefit The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Applications are now being accepted for participants in the 7th Annual Polar Plunge in Long Pond, Grafton Lakes State Park, as part of the Park’s Winter Fest.  The Winter Fest is in its 29th year with outdoor and indoor events occurring all day, January 25.  The plunge happens promptly at 1 pm with check-in beginning at noon at the beach.

Snow Shoe Trek At Dyken Pond Center

If you can hike, you can snowshoe. Try it out at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, January 4, from 1 until 3 pm. Snowshoes may be rented for $5 with advanced registration.  Snowshoes may be rented any day with advanced registration for a fee of $10 per day or $5 for a half day, and there are special group rates. For more information please contact the Center at 658-2055 or dykenpond@fairpoint.net.

Dyken Pond Center, located at 475 Dyken Pond Road, Cropseyville, is a Rensselaer County Park open daily during daylight hours for back-country snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice fishing. Visit www.dykenpond.org for directions and a schedule of our winter events.

Full Moon Trek At Dyken Pond Center

Enjoy the stillness of the full moon at a free guided cross-country ski and snowshoe trek at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Friday, January 17, from 7 to 9 pm. The trek will cover two miles and is designed for the intermediate skier or snowshoer. No beginners, please. Snowshoe rentals are available with advance notice. Please contact the Center for updated snow conditions at 658-2055 or dykenpond@fairpoint.net.

HFCS Boys Down Schuylerville 65 – 56

The HFCS boys basketball team played Schuylerville last Friday evening in the Panther Den. The first quarter was played to a tie as both teams hustled their way to 15 points. The Panthers started to jell in the second quarter and controlled the pace of the action. During this stretch Mark Hackett pulled down defensive rebounds one after the other. This gave the Panthers offensive possessions they were able to use to take a 31 – 24 lead at the half.

Berlin Varsity Boys Basketball Beats Waterford 51-27

The Berlin boy’s Varsity basketball team will go into the two week winter break with a CHVL record of 2-1 after beating 2-2 Waterford 51-27.  After getting a week off from games because of weather, Berlin was ready to get back at it.  Fans from past years have been witness to a rough and tumble rivalry  between the two teams, but Waterford wasn’t up for it this time, and Berlin jumped out to a strong 17-7  first quarter lead.

HFCS Bowling – Marbot Has Highest HFCS Score Ever

The Hoosick Falls bowling team beat North Warren at Lake George Lanes on Thursday, December 12, by the score of 4-0. Hoosick Falls had 3,496 total pins to North Warren’s total pins of 2,684. Hoosick Falls has a point total record of 22-2 and a match record of 5-0-1, and North Warren has a point total of 5-11.

Panther Girls Basketball Wins Two

    HFCS 53                     Schuylerville 26 

The Lady Panthers bused up to Schuylerville last Friday to take on the Lady Black Horses. A couple hours later they traveled back with a 53 – 26 win.

Taylor Hayes led the Panthers to the win, scoring 13 points. Olivia Schneider and Megan Flynn each contributed 12 points.

Hoosick Falls Skating Rink Opens December 21

Ice at the Hoosick Falls skating rink is starting to look good for the holiday season. The Town now has 194 pair of skates; 75 pair are new. The rink is scheduled to open Saturday, December 21. Holiday Hours are Saturday, December 21 – 12:30 to 2:30, 3:30 to 5:30 and 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Sunday, December 22 through Tuesday, December 24 – 12:30 to 2:30 and 3:30 to 5:30 pm, Closed December 25, Thursday, December 26 through Monday December 30 – 12:30 to 2:30, 3:30 to 5:30 and 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Rink Prices: Children up to age 17 and Seniors 62 and over are $3; Adults $4. Skate rentals are $3 and skate sharpening is $5. All hours are subject to change because of the weather. Please call the Rink at 686-4833 for more information and after Holiday hours.

Panthers Declaw Bengals, 62 – 40

After traveling down Route 7 to Tamarac High School, the Panthers boys basketball team faced the Tamarac Bengals Tuesday evening. Austin Pitt scored 19 second half points, ending with 21. His points were hard earned, mostly inside points. The Panthers scored in bursts.
