The sugar houses are shutting down and the peepers are out so it must be baseball season for the Panthers. Coach Mike Lilac Jr. and the Pride loaded the bus to travel to Castleton to face Maple Hill for the Panthers’ Season Opener, in a non-league game. The Panthers clawed their way to the Section II Finals last season and are looking to go further this season.

Earth Day Natural History Walks In Hoosick Falls
On Saturday, April 20, the Friends of the Hoosic River Greenway will lead guided walks focusing on the plants and animals of the Hoosic River Greenway in Hoosick Falls, NY. Meet at the old water works off Carey Avenue at 9 am for your own guided tour to early songbirds or waterfowl or common early wildflowers, shrubs and trees. The plant walk will include an introduction to wild edibles and samples of dishes made from one or two wild edible invasive species. Bring binoculars if you have them. Some hand lenses will be provided for would be botanists. The event is free and open to everyone.

The Hoosick Falls Lacrosse Club Starts Practice

The Hoosick Falls Lacrosse Club (HFLC) started practice last week. Practices are on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm at the Hoosac School fields. It was the first ever practice. These kids made history!
Registration is still open. We still have loads of equipment available. Scholarships are available and the Carknard Fund supports HFLC. No kids will be turned away. We are still actively registering kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. Both boys and girls are welcome to play. We are fully staffed with experienced coaches.

Jeremy Burns Goes To NCAA Wrestling Championships
The Springfield College wrestling team had six student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on March 2 and 3. Tommy Casper, Derek Adams, Joe Grippi, Derrick Longo, Devin Biscaha and Jeremy Burns all represent Springfield College on the national scene.

4-H Auction Supports 4-H Youth Development
The Rensselaer County 4-H Teen Council will host its annual auction on Friday, April 19, at the Brittonkill Elementary School, Route 2 in Brunswick. Doors open at 6:30 pm, bidding starts at 7 pm.
Auction items will include new and used items, merchandise and gift certificates donated by Rensselaer County businesses and theme baskets designed and donated by 4-H Clubs throughout the county. Dinner, desert and refreshments will be available.
The 4-H auction is an annual county-wide fundraiser and all proceeds from the auction go toward awarding college scholarships and to fair judges, to awards, to educational activities, to trips and to support volunteer recognition efforts.
We will be collecting donations until that evening. To get more information, call the 4-H Office at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County at 518-272-4210. Items may be delivered to the Rensselaer County CCE Office, 61 State Street, Troy, NY, 12180. The 4-H Office is located on the second floor.
