Third Annual Petersburgh Harvest Festival

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Story by Amy Modesti
Autumn is here, and the Third Annual Petersburgh Harvest Festival was the perfect way to welcome the season.

The hometown fest brought Petersburgh residents and visitors from neighboring areas together Saturday, September 24. Fifteen vendors took part in selling everything from pottery, flower illustrations, wool-made items, farm-made products, gourmet and medicinal mushrooms, to crafted beer, hard cider, coffee, food, and commemorative t-shirts.

Also included were mule rides given by 14-year-old mule, Mack, and Cody Brundige, the friendly scarecrow (and newest member of the Petersburgh ambulance squad), food vending benefitting the Petersburgh Parks and Recreation, Petersburgh Ambulance, SUNY Albany’s Health and Environment and their P Fast Health Study, raffles, selfie station with the pumpkin scarecrow, and entertainment provided by Donald Lindsay and Judy Campbell, Jayella, Donna Lange, The Aligning, Margo Far, and The Ginger Roots Band.

A Fond Farewell

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Written and Submitted by Dan – The Mail Man
It has been my pleasure to serve the residents of Grafton, Petersburgh and the surrounding areas, as your Rural Postal Carrier, these past 15 years. It was my good fortune to be trained by two excellent carriers, Ann Dennio of Melrose and Don Jones of Petersburgh. Being a Rural Carrier is more than just delivering mail and packages. It is becoming a member of the community, actively helping one another. More than once people of the the community have come to my aid when I broke down or was stuck; I endeavored to return the kindness whenever possible. I always felt my purpose was to be a good shepherd and provide the best service possible for those in my care. [Read more…] about A Fond Farewell

Grafton Fire Dept. Presentation

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Written and Submitted by Ann Kiely
On Wednesday, September 21, Grafton Fire Chief Jim Goyer presented a program on the Grafton Fire Department to the Grafton Historical Society. Chief Goyer is the longest serving Fire Chief in Rensselaer County, and has been a member of the fire company since he was sixteen years old, seeing many changes in the department over the years. One thing that has not changed is the commitment of his family to the fire company, as three generations have served. [Read more…] about Grafton Fire Dept. Presentation

Berlin CSD Board of Education Meeting Highlights

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Chris Tergliafera
The September 20 regular meeting of the Berlin Central School District Board of Education began with an international travel program proposal. The tentative dates for the trip to Italy would be April 6 through 14. As of now the estimated price for the trip would be $3,800 and would include flights, transportation, hotel, and two meals a day. The tentative cap on the number of students who could possibly attend is 30, and it was stated that fundraising opportunities could be available to help raise funds toward the trip. Transportation from the school to the airport was also requested. Superintendent Joseph Dhara stated that while the district would do what they could to help with transportation, they couldn’t currently make any promises due to driver shortages. A Lifetime of Service

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Courtesy of Rensselaer County
It was the early 1960s when 16-year-old Lawrence Cooper of Nassau decided to join his hometown fire department, and was welcomed, somewhat uneasily at first, by the older members of the Village fire unit.

That started a lifetime of service for Larry, who today is still an active member, responding to calls, protecting people and property, and guiding younger firefighters on training and technique. Saturday, September 24, colleagues, friends, and family joined with residents to thank Larry for his service. [Read more…] about A Lifetime of Service

Preparing for the Holiday Season

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) food pantry is stocking up needed supplies to assist over 200 families with food boxes for each of the holidays. With Thanksgiving and Christmas nearing, this is the time of year when the generosity of the community is vital.

This year, with inflation driving up food prices and supply issues leaving some shelves empty, the price of food is increasing and the availability is decreasing. The USDA supplies are smaller than they have been in past years as well.  [Read more…] about Preparing for the Holiday Season

Petersburgh Town Board Highlights

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Denise Wright
The September 19 meeting of the Petersburgh Town Board focused on improving some of the Town’s municipal issues but also stressing some upcoming projects.

The meeting began with two presentations. Starry Ridge Farm gave an overview of the third annual Harvest Festival they sponsored on September 24 at the Petersburgh Library. Assessor Craig Surprise gave the second presentation about the potential for a Town reassessment. He thought getting an audit by a third party about the two-year re-evaluation process was where the Town needed to begin.  [Read more…] about Petersburgh Town Board Highlights
