Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo Hiroshima Day Ceremony

The Grafton Peace Pagoda will commemorate the 71st anniversary of Hiroshima Day on Saturday August 6 with a ceremony dedicated to forever renouncing war creating a nuclear-free world

“We come together to commit to peace and never again using weapons of mass destruction. Let us find ways to heal the earth and all beings.  We must have no enemies and become the enemy of none.”

At 6:30 pm walk from the Grafton Town Square to Peace Pagoda (4.3 miles). At 8:30 pm at the Peace Pagoda, there will be a Program of Peace, Ceremonial Lighting of Lanterns, Interfaith Prayers for Peace, Musical Offerings, Speakers and Readings, and a Fire Hoop Dance

The event will be held rain or shine.  Please wear weather-appropriate clothes and bring a flashlight and insect repellent.  You may also want a blanket.

The Grafton Peace Pagoda is at 87 Crandall Road in Grafton.

Walter Wood High School Reunion Is Well-Attended

The 35th Annual Walter A. Wood Alumni Reunion was held at the Pittstown Rescue Squad on Saturday, June 11. Approximately 150 members and guests from the 50-year and over graduating classes attended. A turkey dinner was served and Ronald Seifert was Master of Ceremonies. Invocation was given by Malcolm Brownell. Janice Tate introduced the M.C. following dinner, and classes were introduced. Rock A Cake For Rock the Block

Hoosick community members are invited to Rock a Cake for the Rock the Block community party taking place on Wednesday, August 3.
A free and open event, Rock the Block will take place on Main Street at 6:30 pm and feature a free chicken barbecue (while supplies last), chalk art drawing (starting at 4 pm), live music, and more.
Nine-inch by eleven-inch sheet cakes will be available for pick up on Monday, August 1. Community members are invited to take one home and decorate it in a style that celebrates Hoosick and bring their “Hoosick Cake” to the party on Wednesday.

HFCS Hosts PFOA Session With Senator Gillibrand

The Hoosick Falls Central School hosted a visit from U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand which was billed as a listening session. A series of Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh residents told stories of the impact on their lives of learning that the water they had been drinking for years is contaminated with PFOA and that they have elevated levels of PFOA in their blood. Gillibrand was visibly moved by the stories being told. She said, “The most important thing I can do today is listen to these devastating stories,” and vowed to impress on her colleagues in Washington and in Albany the gravity of the situation in Rensselaer County.
