Ruth A. Stowell – Obituary

Hoosick Falls – Ruth A. Stowell, 84, passed peacefully at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center on Monday, December 12, 2022. She resided on Fiske Street in Hoosick Falls and was the wife of the late Charles Stowell who passed in 1989.

Ruth was born on May 19, 1938, in Hoosick Falls, NY, daughter of the late Earl and Helen (Kimball) Brown. She worked at several manufacturing companies including Holman’s, and the Love Joy Chaplet, both in Hoosick Falls, and retired from Nastech in Bennington, VT. Corina L. Bakaitis – Obituary

Hoosick Falls – Corina L. (Jones) Bakaitis, 84, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a brief illness. Corina was the daughter of William W. and Ella M. (Bickford) Jones. She was born September 28, 1938, the youngest of 8 children. Corina grew up on a small dairy farm in North Petersburgh, NY. She attended Hoosick Falls High School where she met her future husband, William Bakaitis. They were married on July 3, 1955.

In addition to her husband, Corina is survived by 4 children: Veronica Royall of Brighton, CO; Corinne of Hoosick Falls; William B (Anne) of Hoosick Falls; Carole (Scott) of Troy; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Online Learning and Socialization for Older New Yorkers

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) and the Association on Aging in New York (AgingNY) have partnered with GetSetUp to offer interactive online programming for older New Yorkers specifically designed to increase activity and wellness, help individuals effectively use digital technology, and find other learning opportunities. According to one analysis, up to 43 percent of people 60 and older reported feeling lonely. This sense of isolation often gets worse during the winter when weather conditions make it harder for people to interact in person. Through GetSetUp, New Yorkers can access thousands of engaging classes taught by older adults to their peers. Classes are available at the click of a button around the clock. East Nassau Board of Trustees Highlights

After approval of a lot line adjustment, the December 14 East Nassau Board of Trustees meeting conducted their regular business from highway department business to passing a local law. 

The approximately $18,000 salt and sand bill from the Cedar Creek Tree Service and the $4,000 speed humps and signage for Hays Road were approved. The Treasurer reviewed the bills with the Board. There was a discussion on the reallocation of funds and how they are incorporated into the following year’s budget.

New York State made various amendments to the Uniform Code, which municipalities must implement through code administration and enforcement. After the public hearing for Local Law 1 of 2022, the Board approved the Type II action. This law updates the

Lansingburgh’s First Annual Parade and Tree Lighting

Saturday, December 10, residents and visitors lined up along Corliss Park, Northern Avenue, and Fifth Avenue to enjoy a wonderful afternoon. Holiday candy was tossed out to parade goers as a who’s who of participants ranging from area fire departments to the Lansingburgh HS football team, City of Troy departments, police officials, area businesses and residents in decked out vehicles made an appearance. New Medical Building Gains Brunswick Planners’ Approval

Following a sidewalk to nowhere issue and delays over sewer design and easements, Paulsen Development’s application to construct a two-story medical building at 112 McChesney Avenue gained conditional approval from the Brunswick Planning Board at their Thursday, December 15 meeting. Rensselaer County Purple Heart Highway

On Monday, December 12, Signage designating the Rensselaer County Purple Heart Highway was officially unveiled during a special ceremony. The signage was established via bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Daphne Jordan and Senator-Elect Jake Ashby to honor the courage of Rensselaer County Purple Heart heroes. The sign was unveiled at the American Legion Melvin Roads Post 1231, 200 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer.

The bipartisan legislation renames State Route 43, beginning at the border of Massachusetts just east of Stephentown, and ending at the intersection with 1-90 in North Greenbush, as the Rensselaer County Purple Heart Highway. The measure passed both houses of the State Legislature during the 2022 session with strong, bipartisan support, and was signed into State law by Governor Kathy Hochul on August 12. Barbara J. Greene – Obituary

Brunswick – Barbara J. Greene, 85, passed away on December 4, 2022 at her home, with her loving family by her side, after a short illness. Born in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Frank Noyes and Ellen McCullum Noyes, and the loving wife of 67 years to Albert J. Greene, Jr. Barbara for many years worked in the banking industry. She is survived by her husband Albert, her children David Greene of Grafton and Meg (Dan) Reiser of Melrose. She loved spending time with her grandchildren Daniel (Karly Dolen) Reiser, Jr., Jenna (Curtis) Beck and Elara (Thomas) Foley. In addition to her mother and father, Barbara was predeceased by her sister Nancy O’Reilly. Family and friends were invited to call on Thursday, December 8.
