Stephentown Town Board To Hold Public Hearing About NED Pipeline March 23

This statement was submitted by Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline, a group organized to block the proposed NED pipeline.

On Monday, March 23 at 7 pm., the Stephentown Town Board will hold a public hearing at the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Hall, 35 Grange Hall Road, about the Northeast Energy Direct (NED) pipeline project, a large, high-pressure interstate transmission line proposed by Texas-based energy giant Kinder Morgan (through its subsidiary Tennessee Gas Pipeline). Hoosick Falls Celebrates St. Patricks Day With Parade And Events

The weather in Hoosick Falls on Saturday was not the worst it has ever been, nor the best is has ever been, for the Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. The sky was overcast with just a drizzle coming down. The temperature was chilly, but not cold. The spirit was there, however, even if half the Town was headed to the HFCS girls and boys basketball games. The parade was made up of cheerful floats and great bands.

New Lebanon Town Board – Missing Councilman Baldwin

For the second month in a row, the monthly Board meeting in New Lebanon opened on a sad note, with the remembrance of yet another of those rare-and-getting-rarer citizens that makes a town so much more than just a town. Last month it was Assistant Fire Chief, Mark Sheline. This month it was Councilman Bruce Baldwin who passed away while on vacation in Australia on March 9.

Berlin Town Board Meeting – Water Mains 4½ Feet Underground Are Freezing Up

Besides keeping the snowplow trucks running, this exceptional winter has brought severe cold too that is wreaking havoc on infrastructure. Reporting for Water District 2 at the Berlin Town Board meeting Monday, March 12, Jim Winn said that a couple of 4-inch mains had frozen up and left a number of dwellings on Mill Street without water for a few days.The mains were 4 1/2 feet below ground. Winn said the frost is down to five feet.

Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Wood Brook Proposal On Hold

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, March 10, Bob Murphy of Barton & Loguidice DPC (B&L) addressed the Board regarding a grant application for a study of Woods Brook. Murphy and Brad Grant had made a similar request at the Hoosick Town Board meeting the evening before and the Town Board gave B&L the go-ahead to complete the grant application at a total cost of $7,000 with the Town and Village each paying half. The Village was certainly in favor of a study.

County Legislature Adjourns In Memory Of Richard Whalen

At its meeting on March 10 the Rensselaer County Legislature passed six resolutions memorializing citizens of the County who had recently died. One of them was Dick Whalen of Hoosick Falls in whose memory the meeting was adjourned.
