Peter Tomlinson

Averill Park – Peter L. Tomlinson, 51, of Rte. 43 died suddenly on Thursday February 26, 2015 at Albany Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained from a fall at his home.

Born in Albany, Peter was the son of the late Charles H. and Jane Wharton Tomlinson and the husband of Cassandra Mohos Tomlinson. Peter was raised in New Lebanon and was a graduate of the New Lebanon High School. He had resided in Averill Park since 1987 and had worked for T.G.I. Fridays for over 30 years. He had been the Kitchen Manager at the Stuyvesant Plaza location. Peter was a former member of the Albany Area Chess Club, was an avid reader and was a Red Sox fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his sons Tristan (Jennifer) Tomlinson of Hamilton, NY, Colin (Katherine) Tomlinson and Evan Tomlinson both of Averill Park, his sister Virginia Tomlinson of Oneonta, NY, his brothers Liam Tomlinson of Cortlandt Manor, NY and Daniel Tomlinson of New Lebanon, his grandson Rowan Tomlinson, his step-mother Jeanne Tomlinson of New Lebanon and his father and mother-in-law Frank and Patricia Mohos of Stephentown.

Relatives and friends called at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel at Glass Lake on Wednesday, March 4 in the afternoon, followed by a Service at 7 pm.

Lee Arnold

Walloomsac – Leeward Arnold, a resident of Walloomsac, NY passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his residence.

Lee was born in Hoosick Falls on June 13, 1946 to Charles and Alma (Wood) Arnold who predeceased him.

He lived most of his life in Walloomsac. He leaves his wife of 46 years, Kathleen (Waters) Arnold, a son, Robert Arnold of Bennington; two grandsons, Gunnar and Rian; a very special step-daughter, Sharon O’Malley (Michael); three stepsons and their families; many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Lee was a Vietnam veteran. At Lee’s request there will be no services held.

The Life Of George Holcomb – A Big Sale Of Cheese

Thursday, October 9, 1834: Some rainy. This evening I went to our annual school meeting. I was re-elected trustee with Mr. Nathaniel Bishop and Platt Wylie. I contributed 12½ cts and the district generally each man for the repairs for the school house.

Friday: We wired the pigs noses to put out into the pasture. Quite cold and frosty.

Sunday: Today my wife and daughter Charlotte went with me to the south part of Lebanon about ten miles to carry our hired girl home by the name of Margaret Ann White. She worked for us five weeks and I paid her three dollars and seventy five cts.

Monday: Today I went to Williams-town with my two-horse team after the cheese casks as I before bargained with Tower and Mills.  I took dinner to said Tower’s and my two sons with me. I went to four coopers to get said cheese casks.

Wednesday: This evening I walked to Hiram Madison’s and bargained with him to teach our school four months and a half at ten dollars per and to begin the tenth November.

Thursday: Today Alonzo Rodgers gun went off unexpectedly and shot partly through his or on one side of his cheek.

Friday: This evening Mr. Tower and Mills from Williamstown and fetched the third man and they weighed my cheese what I sold them, which was 4646 pounds and paid me the cash, which was $336.83 and what we have weight to pay for the use of cows and for our own eating about six cwt besides late made and we got done about midnight.

Saturday, October 18: This morning at two o’clock I started for Troy with a load of cheese and Ira Sheldon with me.  We went the new road by Maj Bushes. We got into Troy about noon. I delivered my load to the tow boat office and took a receit. I paid 25 cts at the Troy Bank for one hundred dollars of their bills in exchange for my Adams money I had in payment for my cheese. We came home by the way of Sand Lake. We got home about midnight.

Sunday: Today quite rainy.

Monday: I started for Troy with my second load cheese. I went to Sand Lake and stayed to Henry Withees tonight and I paid up the interest to Rufus Withee on the three hundred dollars and gave a new note. Interest I paid 17 dol, 93 cts.

Tuesday: I went into Troy this morning from said Withees and left my load cheese at the tow boat dock and took a receit and I loaded home with Henry Platt’s goods and he credits me 25 cts per cwt. Weights I have not ascertained. I stopped at Uline’s and bated, three cts for beer and got home about eight this evening.

Brian Howard

Troy – Brian F. Howard, 65, of Troy died on February 20, 2015 at the Albany Medical Center from injuries sustained in a fall at his home.

Born in Saranac Lake, he was the son of the late Timothy and Mildred O’Neil Howard and the devoted husband of Janet Tolbert Howard. Mr. Howard was a graduate of St. Pius X High School in Saranac Lake and Paul Smith’s College, Potsdam State and the University of Albany. He retired as the superintendent of the Troy School District. Prior to that he was the superintendent for the Berlin, Queensbury and Liberty School Districts, assistant superintendent for the Chatham School District, high school principal for Chatham and Cambridge School Districts, and assistant principal for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk School District. He began his career as a teacher in the Brittonkill School District. He dedicated his life to the children in his charge and worked to make the world a better place for future generations. Brian was active in the Rensselaer County Democratic Party and was recently the candidate for state senator in the 43rd District. An avid Yankee fan, Brian loved to hike and was in the process of hiking the Appalachian Trail. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his loving children, Kate Howard of Troy, Eamon Howard of Rochester and Annie Howard of Brooklyn; brother, Patrick Howard (Marge) of Saranac Lake; sisters, Shirley Woodruff and Nancy Heath (Rick) both of Bloomingdale, Norma Howard of Saranac Lake and Joan Rustad of San Diego. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on February 25 at St. Augustine’s Church. Funeral arrangementswere by Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home in Lansingburgh. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Troy in the spring. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Brian’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Comprehensive Plan Update Focus Of Joint Meeting

Hoosick Town Supervisor Mark Surdam invited Rensselaer County Chief Planner Linda von der Heide and Ben Syden and Nicole Allen from the Laberge Group to attend a joint meeting of the Town, Zoning and Planning Boards that was held on Wednesday, January 21. Building Inspector Ed King and Deputy Supervisor Jeff Wysocki also attended the meeting. Surdam said a major objective of the meeting was to discuss updating the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. The Plan was first put in place over 10 years ago.
