Duo Eamon In Free Concert At The Berlin Library

Duo Eamon will perform at the Berlin Library in a free concert on Sunday, November 16, from 3 to 5 pm.

Cassandra Cleghorn and Jeffrey “Eamon” Levine are Duo Eamon, performing traditional fiddle and guitar music of Ireland, New England and Québec.  Playing together since 2008, the duo’s arrangements reflect their life long immersion in the harmonies and rhythms of classical, jazz and, above all, folk music. The interplay between these two consummate musicians is intimate, inviting, energizing.

Peer Retires

The Cheney Library will host a retirement reception for Dan Peer who has worked at the Library for 28 years. The reception will take place in the Library on November 18 at 6:30 pm. Come say so-long to Dan.

Free Books At The Petersburgh Library

The Petersburgh Public Library has the best black Friday deal in town. For the remainder of the month of November all books in the Library vestibule are free. The Library has received a number of donations from the public recently, and we have lots of books. So stop by the Library during regular library hours and take home a bag of books. Cash donations are always welcome but not necessary to participate in this deal of the month.

A Thanksgiving Craft

The Library invites children to stop by to make a Pilgrim hat as a Thanksgiving craft. The craft activity will be held Tuesday, November 18, between 3:30 and 5:30 pm and Wednesday, November 19, between 4:30 and 6:30 pm so stop in any time during those hours to participate.

Story Time

Story time continues Tuesday mornings at 11 am. On November 18 stories will be about the history of Thanksgiving and on November 25 about turkeys and other traditional foods for Thanksgiving.

Knitting Group

Knitters (and anyone who crochets) are invited to join other knitters at the library on Wednesdays at 4 pm.

Decorate Christmas Cookies

Save the date, Saturday morning, Nov. 29 you are invited to get a jump on the holiday season and decorate Christmas cookies between 10 and noon at the library.

Book Group

The next book discussion group will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7:00 PM to discuss the book, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. Copies of the book are available at the library for all those interested in reading the book.

Author Event At The Stephentown Library

On Thursday, November 20, at 7 pm the public is invited to kick off the holiday season with a reading of Inventing Scrooge by Carlo DeVito. The event will include a reading from the book and discussion with the author. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be served.

Food For Fines At The New Lebanon Library

During the week of November 17 through November 22, the New Lebanon Library will exchange food for fines. Fines for overdue materials (regardless of amount) will be cleared from your record at a rate of one fine for one food item donated. Only overdue items – not lost or damaged items – are eligible.

Unopened and unexpired cans, jars, boxed and packaged foods are welcome. Perishable items cannot be accepted. All food donations will be forwarded to Charlie’s Pantry for distribution to needy families in and around New Lebanon. So celebrate Thanksgiving by clearing your conscience and benefiting your community at the same time!

The Grafton Library Presents “Heart Beat” – Native American Musical Traditions

On Friday, November 21, at 6:30 pm, local storyteller Gil Payette will present the next in his program series on Native American culture and folkways at the Grafton Community Library. His multimedia presentation will focus on Native American musical traditions. “Long before Europeans were here, Native Americans had music. Many Nations were known as singers and dancers for recreation, self-expression and healing. What is known of their whistles, flutes, rattles, rasps, harps, fiddles and bells? There were Bull-roarers and Bear-growlers. The drum represented the heart beat for Mother Earth,” Payette said.

• November 17 – Study the Constitution – 7 pm – biweekly discussion group focusing on the study of the Constitution. Interested participants should bring their questions and be ready to share their opinions.

• November 18 – Block Party: Legos in the Library! – 4 to 5:30 pm – a Lego club for kids. We provide the Legos and will display all creations in the Library until the next club.

• November 20 – Teen Movie Night – 6:30 pm. Call for title. Popcorn and juice provided.

• November 21 – Family Movie Night – 6:30 pm. Call for title. Popcorn and juice provided.

 

Panthers Claw Their Way To Win, 31 – 14

Last Saturday night at Stillwater High School, the Hoosick Falls Panthers faced an unfamiliar situation for the first time all year, a halftime deficit. The Fonda – Fultonville Braves scored 14 first half points; the Panthers scored 7. How the Panthers dealt with this situation is the mark of a good team. Coming from behind, especially against good teams, is what championship teams do.

Berlin HS/MS Veterans Recognition Day

About 20 veterans and their guests from Berlin, Petersburgh, Grafton and Stephentown attended the annual Veterans Recognition Day on November 6 at the Berlin High School and Middle School. Following breakfast in the cafeteria, the veterans entered the auditorium to the thunderous applause of the entire student body. “I was overwhelmed,” said one.
