On Sunday, May 4, Brunswick Grange will hold its annual spring agricultural tailgate sale at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, Route 67 and 40 in Schaghticoke, from 8 am to 12:30 pm. More than 50 vendors will have various varieties of chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, vegetables plants and other agricultural items. Absolutely no dogs, cats, puppys or kittens will be allowed for sale. A donation of $15 per vendor will be charged. The event will be held rain or shine. Refreshments will be available. Saturday, April 16, 1831: Today quite rainy. This afternoon I walked to Lebanon to Lias Dike’s to have him come and bargain for my calves.
Sunday: Today said Dike looked at my calves and said they would do a part for veal and agreed to come tomorrow and get them, seven in all, the remainder on Wednesday, and pay me fifteen dol and fifty cts and four runnets.
Monday: This afternoon I and my wife walked over across the hill to cousin Jessey Eggleston’s on a visit and I went down to what is called Norton’s Mill to see if the Griffin girl would work for us as I had talked to her at Guy Moffitt’s a few weeks past but got no answer for certain.
Tuesday: Towards night I got Harvy Wheeler’s single wagon and went after Hulda Smalley up on Hancock mountain to Mr. Sylvester Smith’s to work for us in our dairy, as I have before bargained with her on the 5th of Jan.
Wednesday: This forenoon I and my wife walked over to see Mr. Newton and family. He is considered dangerous by the doctors.
Sunday: Towards night I walked over to my Rodgers Farm and I called to see I Newton and family that was sick, and this evening I walked over to Mr. Guy Moffitt’s to see if the said Griffin girl had left word that she would work for us, but I did not hear from her and I gave up trying to hire her.
Monday, April 25: Today my wife went to Hancock with butter and eggs. She fetched home a girl by the name of Rachel Hall on trial to work for us, price not agreed on.
Friday May 6: Today Doctor Tanner called to my house and I had him draw two teeth for me and I paid him 12½ cts.
Monday: Snow squalls all day.
Tuesday: We plowed manure on a piece in the meadow for corn and potatoes. Today I sent my hired boy Swan after Doctor Tanner for Hulda Smalley. She had a tooth drawn yesterday by Doctor King and broke said tooth before he got it out.
Friday, May 13: Today hired girl Hulda Smalley quit work and went to Dr. Tanner’s to be doctored.
The Margaret L. Kinn Scholarship

Applicants for this new two or four year scholarship must be a graduating senior at BCS pursuing a career in business, finance or accounting. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who will make a difference. It is not based upon the highest GPA but on who will benefit the most.
To apply for this scholarship students must fill out an application and write an essay explaining why they are interested in this chosen field and describing their outside work and extra curricular activities while a student in the Berlin Central School District and what they hope to do after graduating from college. Extra information will be attached to the applications. These can be found at the BCS Guidance Office.
Berlin Alumni Assn. Scholarship
Applications are available in the BCS Guidance office. The Alumni Association is looking for a graduating senior or a returning college student who is in need of assistance to continue his or her education. The application must be filled out, returned by the student, signed by parents and mailed to the Berlin Alumni Association, P.O. Box 149, Berlin, NY, 12022.

Hoosick Town Board Action – No Pool This Summer

During the April 14 Hoosick Town Board meeting the Board approved a resolution transferring $40,000 from Fund Balance to establish the Hoosick Pool Rehabilitation Fund. The Board was in agreement that repairs to the Pool will not be completed this summer. Supervisor Surdam said anyone is welcome to visit the Town website and “see what we see.”

Town Hall Event On Heroin And Drug Abuse

On Wednesday, April 23, at 7 pm, the HAYC3 Community Coalition will hold an important Town Hall Meeting at the HAYC3 Armory in Hoosick Falls regarding the recent rise in heroin, prescription drug and other substance abuse in our community. Parents, youth, community leaders and members are invited to attend and become better informed about the current trends in the existence and usage of illegal substances right here at home.
Fire At Taconic

On Tuesday firefighters made quick work of a fire at Taconic in Petersburgh. The fire began at around 6 am in the exhaust ductwork and extended to materials that were stored on the floor at Building 1. The Petersburgh Fire Department and Ambulance, the Berlin Fire Department and the Grafton Fire Department were on the scene for about 90 minutes.
Berlin Town Board Action – Beneath The Surface

The Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, April 10, seemed uneventful on its surface, but on reflection several important, long-standing issues were discussed.
