The expressions on the faces of the little tykes entering Hoosick Falls Central School on Tuesday, September 6, ranged from pure joy and excitement to trepidation and anxiety. The Berlin Ladies’ Auxiliary presents our 6th Annual FABULOUS FALL-OUT CAR & BIKE SHOW September 24th – 10-3 at the Berlin Firehouse located at 11 Community Ave in Berlin, NY

Giffy’s Chicken Bar-B-Q

The Town of Hoosick Republican Party will sponsor a Giffy’s Chicken BBQ on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Grand Union Parking lot from 4:00 -6:00 pm.  Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Committee member or by calling the number below.  There will be limited amount of extra meals, so order soon.  We always sell out early.

Mountain Chapel Fishing Derby Winners Announced

The winners of the Mountain Chapel Fishing Derby on Aug 27 were –  1st place, Caleb Hendricks from Berlin, 2nd place, Jeffery Curtis from Petersburgh, 3rd place, Sharon Strock from Grafton. Junior Division – 1st place, Jordyn Travis, 2nd place, Nate Hendricks, 3rd place, Seth Hendricks.

Penny Social In Brunswick

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks will hold their Annual Penny Social on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1-4 PM. Doors open at 11AM. Over 200 Prizes to be won, plus raffles for 22″ flat screen TV and a Kindle.  Door prize is a trip for 2 to Turning Stone.  Come enjoy a good time!.  The lodge is located at 665 Brunswick Road (Rt 2), Troy, NY.

Registration is open for the Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 24, 2011. The race is sponsored by Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. Start and finish is in Wood Park on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. The course runs through the Village of Hoosick Falls and includes hills, turns and a lovely stretch along the Hoosic River. The race will be held rain or shine.

Rope Making At The Poestenkill Historical Society

The Poestenkill Historical Society will be starting their fall schedule Tuesday, September 27, 2011 with a program on the history of Rope Making.
Ropesmiths, Dave and Mike started making historically correct cordage in 1995,after noticing that Civil War Re-enactors were using nylon cordage in their portrayals. From the beginning of history, hemp has been the preferred fiber for rope making in Europe.The only shortcoming was that, since it came from the stalk of a plant, it was prone to rot if not treated with pine tar. Parent Toddler Classes At Mountain Road School

Mountain Road School’s Parent-Toddler classes begin again September 22, 2011. We welcome parents and caregivers with children aged 18 months to three years. The program has been expanded to ten weeks and will be held on Thursdays from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., September 22, October 6, 11, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, and December 1, 8 (no groups will be held on Rosh Hashanah, September 29th or Thanksgiving, November 24th). Our Valley Community Farmers’ Market Closes Season Early

Berlin-based Our Valley Community Farmers’ Market (OVCFM) will be closing its 2011 Market Season earlier than expected, Market Manager Trish Gerstel has announced. The decision, she said, had a lot to do with Tropical Storm Irene: “Unfortunately, the storm brought a significant amount of crop damage. Even those crops that weren’t flooded suffered from the excessive rain.” Gerstel herself lost a crop of cucumbers and several squash plants.
