Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, February 26, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Brunswick Elks Need Vendors

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks will be holding its Annual Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, March 5. Profits will help support many of the charities the Ladies support such as Needy Local Families, Hospice, Cerebral Palsy, VA Hospital and more.  The Lodge is located on Rt. 2 in Brunswick.  Contact Denise at 273-1449 for more details.

Cabin Fever Day

The annual Cabin Fever Day for ladies of North Chatham and surrounding area takes place on Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 21, at the North Chatham United Methodist Church located on Route 203 in the hamlet.
All ladies of the general area are invited to meet in Fellowship Hall of the Church at noon with a food dish to share; place settings and drinks will be furnished.

Enjoy The Outdoors Over The Winter School Break

Grafton Lakes State Park will be offering two winter break programs while the kids are off from school this coming week.  Backyard Birding on February 19 and Animal Tracks & Traces on February 23 will get the whole family outside for some winter fun. The Park is also open daily from 8 am to 4:30 pm and free to access, with trails in great shape for snowshoeing or snowmobiling.

Woodside Cemetery Meeting

The Woodside Cemetery Association will hold its annual lot owners and families business meeting on March 1 at 7 pm at the Union Gospel Church Hall on Plank Road, Rt. 40, in East Poestenkill. All interested parties are welcome to attend. We will discuss general business and plans for spring projects. The election of officers will be held. The floor will be open to anyone who would like to comment.

Donald S. Hewitt Jr.

Petersburgh – Donald Seward Hewitt, Jr., 72, of Route 22, Petersburgh, NY, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.
Born June 14, 1938, in Petersburgh, he was the son of the late Donald S. and Lydia Quackenbush Hewitt. A lifelong resident of Petersburgh, Don graduated from Hoosick Falls High School and was a member of the Petersburgh Baptist Church. George Wilson

North Hoosick – George Wilson, 86, of North Hoosick, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, February 11, 2011, at his residence with his family by his side. Born on February 22, 1924, in Schaghticoke, NY, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Bryant) Wilson. George served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. While serving in the 2nd Battalion, 515th Parachute Infantry Regiment, George achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received several medals and ribbons while participating in the American Theater and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaigns.

Beverly M. Yavaniski

Hoosick Falls – Beverly M. Johnson Yavaniski, 78, of Dolan Avenue, Hoosick Falls, NY, died on Sunday evening, February 13, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where she has resided since November.
Born in the Town of Saratoga on December 12, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Gifford Johnson. She was the loving wife of the late Charles G. Yavaniski, who died on March 20, 1998. They were married on February 27, 1960, and Beverly had been a resident of Hoosick Falls since then.

Born in Hancock, MA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Pearl Haywood Maynard.  She was a United States Air Force veteran who worked hard for her family.

Walter D. Doyle

Grafton – Walter D. Doyle, 78, passed away on February 7, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had resided at North Shore Road on Babcock Lake in Grafton, NY.
Born on November 10, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, Walter was the son of the late Walter F. and Dorothy (Brassell) Doyle. He was educated at schools in New York City. He worked for the McCann Erickson Advertising Company in New York until retirement.
Funeral services were private at the request of the family. Arrangements were under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, in Hoosick Falls.
