Grafton Baptist Church Ukraine Mission Trip

On Christmas break Josh Ferguson, Kenny Gardy, Michael Reger and Allen Lindeman, members of the Grafton Baptist Church, set out to the Ukraine on a mission trip. They left on December 18 and returned on January 1. Many Church members, friends, family and community members made this trip possible through their generous financial support and prayers. Roof Collapse In Petersburgh

A section of roof on one of the buildings at Taconic in Petersburgh collapsed from snow load on Tuesday, February 8, at 8:10 am. The building affected is across the road from Taconic’s main manufacturing plant, and it is used for inventory storage.
The company reacted quickly. By noon Wednesday, the affected area, a 60′ x16′ section of the shed, had been removed, the inventory formerly stored there had been relocated to other buildings on Taconic’s campus and cleanup operations were in full swing.

According to Pat Bakaitis, the collapse of the roof over his heavy equipment stored on Baby Lane in Hoosick was a loud roar that lasted several seconds Saturday afternoon, February 5. The full extent of the damage to Bakaitis’ equipment won’t be known until the roof is removed. NYS Aid To HFCS Drops By $1.3 Million

Hoosick Falls Schools Superintendent Ken Facin said this week that Governor Cuomo’s proposed reduction in school aid will have serious consequences for the Hoosick Falls District. Under the Governor’s proposal, total aid to the Hoosick Falls District would be cut by 13%, which is $1.3 million. NYS Aid To BCS Drops By $1.2 Million

Governor Cuomo’s budget submitted to the State Legislature last week would cut State aid to the Berlin Central School District by $1.2 million. That’s a drop in funding of 13%. Interim Superintendent Brian Howard warned at the last School Board meeting that the proposed cut would be severe. He thought it might even be as high as last year’s slashing of $634,000. As it turns out, Cuomo is thinking bigger.

Metered Billing At Last

The Village of Hoosick Falls will finally begin metered water billing. Residents and businesses will see the results with the new billing cycle in August 2011. The cycle is three payments for residential properties, made in August and November of one year and February of the next year, and twice yearly for businesses. The new billing plan was approved at the regular meeting of the Village Board on Tuesday, February 8, after the close of the public hearing on the rates.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Progress At Dougherty’s Corner

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, February 8, the Board approved a short term loan of $10,000 to Alex Koks for bank closing costs for construction on the Dougherty lot on the corner of Main and John Streets. The loan money comes from the Village’s small business fund and will be paid back with the Restore NY grant funds once the new building is complete and approved. Mayor Matt Monahan pointed out that Koks has put up several personal properties as collateral for the bank loan.
