The December meeting of the Taconic Valley Community Group (TVCG), is scheduled for Thursday, December 9, at 12:30 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, Route 20, New Lebanon. The Program will feature Jim Shake of the American Red Cross discussing the blood drive that TVCG will be hosting on Thursday, February 10, at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall.

Johnsonville Rescue Squad Breakfast
The Johnsonville Rescue Squad at 4 River Road, Johnsonville, will be having its monthly breakfast on December 5 from 7:30 to 11:30 am. Stephentown – Olive F. Engwer Gerstel, 88, of Garfield Road, Stephentown, NY, died on Thursday evening, November 25, 2010, at the Williamstown Commons in Williamstown, MA, surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 16, 1922, in Poestenkill, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Florence Bott Engwer. She was the loving wife of the late Adolph J. Gerstel, who died on January 12, 1966.

Bennington – Leonard J. Hartnett, 79, a resident of Carpenter Lane, Bennington, VT, died Sunday, November 28, 2010, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness.
Born in Berlin, NY, on April 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph and Madeline (Miller) Hartnett. Leonard received his education in the Berlin schools.

A fire on Spicer Road in Hoosick, in a building that houses Hardesty Waste Removal and RM Bacon Construction, was started when sparks from a grinding machine accidentally ignited flammable material nearby. BCS Board President John Greene Resigns

John Greene, President of the Berlin School Board since last July, has submitted his resignation. Greene said he discussed the resignation in executive session at the end of the regular Board meeting on Tuesday, November 16. The Board accepted the resignation immediately following the executive session. It will be effective as of November 30 or possibly earlier if the Board comes up with a replacement before then.

Grafton Tax Increase Is 3.6%

Several pay cuts were included in the budget approved by the Grafton Town Board at its regular meeting on Thursday, November 18. Those reductions and other cuts brought the budget to a 3.6% increase or $11.01 per thousand. When the Board first reviewed the 2011 budget, anticipated increases ranged from 8 to 11%.
