Summerfield – Joan A. Fagan Hand, 75, died on October 30, 2010, in Florida. Born in New Rochelle on November 20, 1934, to Thomas and Mary Monahan Fagan, she was the loving wife of William N. Hand, who survives. She retired as a Teacher’s Assistant for the Westchester BOCES in 1994.

Geo P’s First Child Lives Only One Day

Monday, August 7, 1854: Today about noon Geo P. had a daughter born but Doctor Bates did not get there in time. This afternoon I rode up to get the widow Verona Holcomb to nurse Geo P’s wife but she was gone to Poestenkill. I returned and Geo P. got the widow Rodgers. Today John F. and Michael and Thomas mowed on my Rodgers farm.

Eastern Rensselaer Co. Election Results By Town

The only contested local election in the Eastwick area was that for a position left vacant on the Stephentown Town Council after Larry Eckhardt was elected last year as Town Supervisor. Bill Jennings (D, WF) defeated John Meekins (R,C) for that seat with 57% of the  vote. Also in Stephentown, Wes Edwards running unopposed was elected to another term as Town Justice. Edwards has already served 47 years in that position.

A Change In Approach To Lead Problem At BES

Meeting with a group of parents and others concerned about lead paint at Berlin Elementary School, attorney Peter Danziger said that pressure put on the Berlin Central School District Board and Superintendent had resulted in a “360 degree change” in their approach, but he urged that parents be prepared to keep the pressure on.
