No Increase In BCSD Tax Levy

The Berlin School Board at their regular meeting Tuesday set the tax levy for the 2010-11 school year at the amount approved by the voters in June, which is $8,317,221. The levy is the same as for the previous year. The levy results in the following tax rates per thousand, apportionment of the levy and percentage changes in the individual towns. Only one town, Stephentown, will see an increase this year.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Woof, Woof

On Monday, August 16, the Petersburgh Town Board zipped through its business in 15 minutes (not counting the half hour spent auditing the bills) this month with Deputy Supervisor David Green leading the meeting. Supervisor Peter Schaaphok was unable to attend because he was involved in a Battle of Bennington re-enactment on August 16.

Grafton Town Board Action – August 2010

All members of the Grafton Town Board, Council members Ed Fredricks, III, Mike Crandall, Barbara  Messenger, Marie Claus, Supervisor Allison Kirchner, and Town Clerk Sue Putnam, were present at the Town Board meeting on August 12. Minutes for the July 8 regular meeting and the July 26 special meeting were approved as submitted, as were the Supervisor’s report and the Clerk’s report.

Hoosick Planning Board

John Nealon appeared before the Hoosick Planning Board Monday evening, August 16. It was his first visit, in which he outlined some boundary line changes he wants to make. After discussing the project with the Board, he will return with the necessary deeds and survey next month.

Dorris DuPont Celebrates 100 Years

Barney Oldfield set a land speed record of 131.7 mph at Daytona in 1910. The first Father’s Day was celebrated, the Boy Scouts of America was founded and President William Howard Taft began the tradition of throwing out the first baseball on opening day. And on August 15, 1910, Dorris DuPont was born in Gouverneur, NY, in St. Lawrence County.

Hoosick Falls Country Club Thursday Night League Team Scramble

In Division One George Smith and Paul Haynes won the Low Gross portion of the Thursday Night League Team Scramble competition with a minus 6, 28. Brad Eastman and Mike Hickey took Low Net with a Net 28.75.
