BCS Leadership Positions Filled

In the wake of Superintendant Gregory’s resignation, Berlin’s BOE had little time to decide who would assume leadership of the District.  On June 29, the BOE appointed Eileen Leffler, Grafton’s former Principal, as interim superintendant.  They also officially approved resolutions to make Berlin art instructor Jason Breh the interim middle school principal and Cathy Allain the high school principal with tenure. Each of these appointments takes effect on July 1.

Electronics Housings Arrive On Grange Hall Road

Work progresses on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown, site of Beacon Power’s flywheel-based frequency regulation plant. With flywheel housings now in place for eight of the planned 20 pods, each to contain ten flywheels, the company took delivery on Tuesday, June 29, of two trailer sized electronics housings and four smaller containers housing equipment to provide cooling for the flywheels and the electronics.

HFCS Kindergarten 2010 Celebration

On Thursday, June 24, eighty-eight children completed kindergarten at Hoosick Falls Central. They ended their first school year by climbing onto the stage in the high school auditorium, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing songs, playing kazoos, individually shaking hands with their Principal, Mr. Dailey, and then standing center stage for a moment of glory, the first of many to come during their school years ahead. So many youngsters with so many different personalities.

Hoosick Falls Junior Girl Scouts Earn Bronze Award

Anna Brewer, Katy Gardner, Lexie Gates, Lauren Harrison and Sydney Stowell from Hoosick Falls Junior Troop 1144 have earned their Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award Girl Scouts in grades four and five can earn. These girls are fifth-graders at Hoosick Falls Central School.

Stephentown Historical Society 29th Annual Strawberry Festival

Ten people picked 200 pounds of strawberries, 15 people hulled them, over a dozen people baked homemade biscuits and strawberry-rhubarb pies and a dozen more served the delicacies at the Stephentown Historical Society’s 29th annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 27, at The Berry Patch on Route 22.
