Saturday, January 4, 1851: This forenoon I and John F. laid all new plank oak in the ox stable joining the horse stable, and this afternoon Geo P. and his two sisters returned home from Balston on a visit to Orsemas Holcomb and they visited to James Bushes going and to Mr. Mott’s returning home. We have had steady cold weather through the week. They stopped in Troy and did business to Bennett’s and Van Valkenburgh’s boosum stores.

The driver of a school bus van that got stuck in the snow last Thursday, January 8 should never have been on that road, according to Rensselaer County spokesman Chris Meyer. The van got stuck on a seasonal portion of North Moore Hill Road in North Stephentown. Seasonal roads are not plowed in winter and are officially closed to traffic from October 15 to April 15.

The brutal killing of the bay Skye, owned by Dawn Feathers, in her stall on Hill Road in Hoosick prompted County Legislators Lester Goodermote and Stan Brownell to introduce a resolution at Tuesday night’s Rensselaer County Legislative session calling for the State to strengthen Buster’s Law, a law which, several years ago, established the felony category of aggravated cruelty toward animals.

NYS State Police news release
On January 8 the NYS Police in Brunswick executed a search warrant at a residence located on Telford Road in the Town of Hoosick, as a result of an ongoing investigation into several burglaries that had occurred in the area. As a result, police seized the apparent proceeds of several reported burglaries.
