Thursday, October 5, 1837: Today I went to Pittsfield with my covered wagon and carried my wife and two oldest daughters and two sons to cattle show. We called to Roberts Tavern on the mountain to what is called Broad’s old stand and I paid ten cents for bitters and crackers. Mr. Bull of Albany delivered an address and then I and my wife and daughters went to brother Jay Wylie and took tea. I paid about 40 cts for my two sons to see the shows and for cake and clams. Some snow and rain this afternoon and quite dark coming home this evening, a large crowd today of people, especially in the meeting house.

County Presents PFOA Data At Petersburgh Town Board Meeting

Rensselaer County Environmental Health Director Rich Elder and Deputy County Esecutive Chris Meyer came to the Petersburgh Town Board meeting to present a map the County has created based on the results of the first 47 samples from private wells that were tested for PFOA contamination. The hot spot was of course the Taconic campus and its immediate surrounding area. High readings extended down Hewitt Road to some extent and areas downstream (north) of Taconic. But the area contaminated by PFOA does not seem to extend very far south of the campus, or up Toad Point Road, or across the Little Hoosick River. The Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon has received a gift of the Shaker pieces collected and used by Ellsworth Kelly and his husband Jack Shear. The collection was promised to the Museum in 2011, following the Museum’s honoring of Ellsworth and Jack at its annual benefit event. Ellsworth Kelly passed away on December 27, 2015.
