A Good Week For Lady Mountaineers Basketball

Boys Suffer Heartbreaking Loss, Swim Team Ties Taconic Hills

Berlin’s Girls High School Basketball team posted a pair of Central Hudson Valley League wins this past week.  Wednesday they used a balanced scoring attack to take down Doane Stuart by a 55 to 39 score.  Tiffany Foley lead the way with 19 points, Maggie Gordon followed with 15 while Cassie Bentley scored another 12.  Berlin coach Fleda Berschwinger described it as “a very good team victory.”  The Lady Mountaineers were back on the court the next night against Hawthorne Valley.  The Wildcats have struggled all year and their game against Berlin was no different.   Berlin led all the way in posting a 50-13 victory.  Maggie Gordon led all scorers with 23 points. HFCS Bowling Team Ends Season With 4-0 Win Over Corinth

The Hoosick Falls bowling team finished their regular season league matches with a 4-0 win over Corinth from the Northern Division of the Adirondack League.  Hoosick Falls finished the regular season with a point total of 48-0 in the league and a overall match record of 13-1 while Corinth finished with a league point total of 31-25. HF Hands Stillwater First Defeat, 59 – 57, in OT

Alex Mendez scored 24 points, including six in the overtime, to lead the Panthers to a huge win over the previously undefeated Stillwater Warriors Friday evening. The win kept Hoosick Falls in contention for a third straight Wasaren League title, with a little help from a Stillwater opponent. The Panthers are one game behind Stillwater and tied with Mechanicville for second place. Stillwater plays Mechanicville on Feb. 5 at home, the best chance for a Stillwater loss. Lady Panthers Get Two More League Wins

The Lady Panthers held on to first place in the Wasaren League as they soundly defeated two league foes over the past week. The Panthers stand at 10-1 in league play, with a 14-2 record overall. Hoosic Valley is a game behind at 9-2 (L). Tamarac (8-3), Cambridge (7-40, Stillwater (5-6), Mechanicville (3-8), Greenwich (2-9), and Granville (0-11) round out the teams.
