Rensselaer County Legislature

October 22, 2015 By eastwickpress

Large Crowds Disappointed By County Inaction

by Tyler Sawyer

Like the previous monthly meeting, when the legislature replaced their leadership by selecting a new chairman, the October regular meeting was far from a normal meeting. For the second time in less than a week, the chambers of the Rensselaer County Legislature were packed with concerned residents predominantly from the towns of Stephentown, Nassau, Sand Lake and Schodack.  They all were there for one reason: to plead with the legislature to adopt legislation that would help in protecting their drinking water from possible damage from the proposed Kinder-Morgan gas pipeline that will be located in their towns if approved. Board Adopts Preliminary 2016 Budget, Shows Tax Increase Of Just Under 6%

Budget-Related Public Hearings Set For October 22 And November 5

by Deb Alter

At its meeting on Thursday, October 15, the Hoosick Town Board passed a motion to adopt the 2016 Preliminary Budget, which will exceed the property tax cap instituted by New York State. It was not feasible to stay under the tax cap for the upcoming year because the Town will begin paying off a bond incurred for the work on the pool, will be purchasing two trucks (one new, one used) for the Highway Department, and will begin setting aside funds this year for the cost of a property revaluation.  [Read more…] about Hoosick Town Board Action

The Board Learns That New Tennis Courts Are Expensive

by Thaddeus Flint

New Lebanon’s “beaten to death” tennis courts will get beaten a little more to death before they are brought back to life, it was more or less decided at last Tuesday’s monthly Board meeting.

Obviously if this is the highlight of a Town meeting, things in Town aren’t all that bad. However for those hoping to perfect their fluffy yellow ball chasing on a brand new court before the year ends, it’s not going to happen. [Read more…] about New Lebanon Town Board Action

Engineer’s Report: Village Highway Garage Needs Work;

American House Demolition Process Moving Forward

by Deb Alter

An engineering report on the Highway Garage recently received from an independent engineer indicated that it needs significant work. Two proposals were offered, one that involves repairing the old garage (at a cost of about $900,000), and another in which the building would be torn down and a new one built ($1,000,000). Mayor David Borge said that they would be looking for grant money to do this project when the time comes. “The discussion about which option makes the most sense and how the Village should proceed will be on next month’s agenda,” the mayor said.
