New And Improved Berlin Elementary School To Be Unveiled

The community is invited to attend the Grand Reopening of the Berlin Central School District on Wednesday, October 22, to showcase the myriad renovations and upgrades completed since June 2013. A ribbon cutting will take place at 5 pm at the main entrance of the Berlin Elementary School (BES) with remarks from Superintendent Dr. Stephen Young and Board of Education President Frank Zwack, Jr.

Sukuskas Wins Conservationist Award

On September 19 Ed Sukuskas was honored by the New York State Conservation Council as the 2014 Volunteer Conservationist of the Year. Accompanied by long time friend P.J. Hyde, Sukuskas traveled to Utica to receive the Award. At the same meeting his good friend and fellow sportsman Howard Cushing, Jr. received the Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

HFCS Panthers Win Battle For First, 45 – 6

The HFCS Panther football team traveled to Greenwich last Friday evening to take on the Witches. At stake was first place in the northern division of Class C. If the Panthers lost there would be a first place tie between Hoosick Falls, Greenwich and Corinth. Each team would have one loss.

Mountaineer Boys Soccer Senior Night

On Friday October 10 Berlin Central School honored its boys senior soccer players. Thirteen seniors played this year at the JV and Varsity level. Some have been playing soccer since kindergarten, some were returning after some time off and others decided to just be a part of a fun, tight knit group of athletes.

Panther Boys Soccer – Gaines On A Scoring Streak

The HFCS boys soccer team participated in the Maple Hill Tournament last Saturday and Monday. Things did not go well for the boys. Saturday they played Maple Hill in the first round, falling 3 – 0 to the hosts. In Monday’s consolation game against Christian Brothers Academy, the Panthers grabbed a 1 goal lead but couldn’t hang on as the Panthers fell 2 – 1. Tyler Gaines scored the lone goal for the Panthers, and Noah Chani recorded nine saves. CBA’s goalie recorded two.

Pizza For Spain At BCS

On Friday, October 24, from 4 to 7 pm, students, parents and teachers will be working together at the Berlin MS/HS to make and sell hot fresh pizzas to help students raise money for their trip to Spain in April. You can order online by emailing Karen Day (kday@berlincentral.org) before 2 pm on Friday the 24th or by telephone after 3 pm at 658-2515 ext 1042. Red or white pizzas start at $8 and toppings cost $1 each. Toppings include: pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, mushrooms, green and yellow peppers, black olives, onions, jalapeños, pineapple and broccoli.
