Hoosick Post Office Closing

According to Maureen Marion of the Corporate Communications Postal Service the last business day at the Hoosick Post Office will be Thursday, July 3, as the Post Office must be out of the building by July 4. “This is a leased facility,” said Marion. “We will continue to work toward other solutions.”

Rensselaer County Legislature Action – Berlin’s Joan deLeon Remembered

In May the Rensselaer County Legislature passed a resolution memorializing Berlin’s Joan deLeon, who died on April 4 of this year. On June 10 the deLeon family came to the well of the Legislature in prodigious numbers during the presentation period before the Legislature’s regular meeting to participate in the ceremony honoring their matriarch. Stephen Colvin Fundraiser Raises $15,000

Stephen Colvin, 21 year old son of Craig Colvin and Melissa North, was this past winter in an accident while skiing in Maine with his college buddies. It was a tragic event, felt literally across the world. But good things can come from the most terrible of things. This past Saturday a great thing came from the tragedy.

Grafton Town Board Action – Resignations

The Grafton Town Board received a letter of resignation from Marie Claus, in which she said she had decided to resign “due to personal issues.” Her resignation was effective June 1, 2014. The Board also received a letter of resignation from Peter Gundrum from his position on the Planning Board.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Concern About Gas Pipeline Percolates

The few first blades of a new grass roots movement started to take root Tuesday night at the New Lebanon Town Board meeting when some residents began to question a proposed high pressure natural gas pipeline that could one day pass through the Town. The seeds, so to speak, had been sewn at a meeting in Canaan the week before by a new group called the Columbia County Citizens for a Sustainable Future, who have begun to organize against the project which would follow the route of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline that already cuts through the area.

Small Engines Draw Big Crowds In Hoosick Motocross

On two beautiful days last weekend, off road motorcycle racing events were held on Fish and Game Road in Hoosick. The road is on the west side of Potter Hill, just east of the Potter Hill Barn. The racing, a newer and popular format called JDay Racing, consists of 80 percent cross country, 25 percent motocross and an optional 15 percent X-Treme racing. The track was 3.5 miles long.
