Beacon Power LLC broke ground and installed the first of 200 flywheels last month in Hazle Township, PA, for their second 20 megawatt flywheel based frequency regulation plant. The company is the successor to the bankrupted Beacon Power Corporation that completed construction of the first such plant in Stephentown for the New York power grid just about two years ago.

Cherry Plain Woman Named Chair Of The Business Division At SVC

Southern Vermont College has announced two new chairs of academic divisions, with Associate Professor of Marketing Stacey Hills, of Cherry Plain, becoming the Chair of The McCormick Division of Business this summer and Jennifer Burg being named the Chair of The Hunter Division of Humanities for the past semester. Both women bring a Ph.D. to their respective new positions and a combined 30 years of teaching experience at the college level.

Battle Of Bennington Commemoration
The Battle of Bennington, fought on August 16, 1777, will be commemorated at the New York State Bennington Battlefield Historic Site on Friday, August 16, starting at 7 pm. The ceremony will be conducted by members of Chapters of the Empire State Society Sons of the American Revolution, The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and other local historical groups in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
