Solar Panels Sprouting In Stephentown

Solar panels seem to be sprouting everywhere, on farms, firehouse roofs and residential homes. The Town of Stephentown is looking into installing them on the Town Hall, the Town Garage or at the Transfer Station. Stewart’s convenience stores has embarked on putting up a 600 kilowatt system on the roof of its manufacturing and distribution center in Saratoga County.

That year Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated as the 28th President. John D. Rockefeller gave $100 million to start the Rockefeller Foundation. The zipper was patented. The first little prize was put into a box of Cracker Jacks. The Lincoln Highway opened as the first paved coast to coast highway, and the Federal Income Tax was signed into law at one percent.

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Berlin United Methodist Church on Monday, July 29, from 1 to 6 pm. The Church is located at 17 South Main Street in Berlin.

The Final Memorial Motorcycle Run For Ryan Gardner And Courtney Carelli

The Tenth and Final Memorial Motorcycle Run for Ryan Gardner and Courtney Carelli will be held on Saturday, August 3. The rain date is August 4. The Run starts at Gardner’s Ice Cream & Coffee Shoppe on Route 22 in Stephentown at 11 am. Registration begins at 9 am. The run passes through three states and ends at the Stephentown Fire Pavilion.
A $25 donation includes the Run and an entry to win a lawn tractor or trailer. There will be hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch at 1 pm. A pork dinner will be ready at 4 pm, with beer available.
No motorcycle? No problem! Meet us at the Pavilion at 1 pm for the pig roast and a day of entertainment. There will be food all day, along with motorcycle games, vendors, raffle prizes, a 50/50 Raffle, T-shirts and sweatshirts, Live music will be provided by WYKYD, Red Handed and more.
We wish to thank the hundreds of bikers and vendors who over the past nine years have raised thousands of dollars and sponsored 220 scholarships so that students could afford to take courses at Hudson Valley Community College while still in high school.

In a Court of Honor ceremony at the Poestenkill Fire Company on Sunday, June 23, Stephen Pelletier of Berlin was awarded Scouting’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout badge. Battle Of Gettysburg At The Cheney

Former HFCS teacher Michael Russert captivated his audience of forty at the Cheney Library on Tuesday evening, July 9. There was not a sound as he told of the life of author Michael Shaara and his famous book, Killer Angels, about the Battle of Gettysburg. He followed it up with interesting facts on that Battle and information on Hoosick Falls’ Company A of the 125th NY Volunteer Infantry Regiment that fought there as well.
