The Savvy Caregiver

The Savvy Caregiver Program, from the Alzheimer’s Association, is a free, six session training series that helps family caregivers better understand the changes their loved ones are experiencing and how to best provide individualized care along the continued decline associated with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The course will be held on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm on June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 3 at the Brunswick Community Library, 4118 State Highway 2, Troy. Kidney Fundraisers In Memory Of Steve Kellar

The family of Steve Kellar will be raising money for the Northeast Kidney Foundation in his memory. On Saturday, May 18, from 4:30 to 7 pm, there will be a spaghetti dinner at the Berlin Firehouse. Adults: $8, Children 3-10: $5, Children 2 & Under: FREE. There will also be a Coffee Cup Auction. New and handmade items can be donated. Take-outs are available.
On Sunday, June 9, is the “Walk for Kidneys” at the Crossings of Colonie. If you would like to join the team Steve’s Angels, please contact Tiffany Kellar at 658-2843

The Annual Great Strides Walk Is May 19

On Sunday, May 19, the Kempf family and many friends will be at Grafton Lakes State Park for the annual Great Strides walk to benefit Cystic Fibrosis. Their team, Miles for Mathew, honors their son with the disease and has become one of the largest teams in the Capital District.
Please consider walking with the Miles for Mathew team or making a donation. The walk begins at 12 pm. For more information, call 573-9790.

Stephentown VFD Texas Hold’em

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Departmentwill hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, May 18, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 1,000 extra chips. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of nine places.

Berlin Rescue Squad Café

On Friday, May 17, the Berlin Rescue Squad will be holding its monthly delicious Fish Fry Dinner. For $10 you can come enjoy a hearty helping of fried cod on a roll, French fries, coleslaw, a brownie and soda or water. Eat in or take out; its up to you. Call-in orders are welcome. The Firehouse number is 658-2890. The dinner will be held from 5 to 7 pm at the Berlin Fire House.

West Hoosick FD Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast

The West Hoosick Fire Department will hold an All You Can Eat Mothers Day Breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, May 12, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
It’s time to pamper your mom so start the day off right and give her a great breakfast. The firehouse is located on Pine Valley Road near the intersection of County Routes 109 and 103.  For more information, please call the firehouse at 686-1814.

Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Co. Breakfast

Members of the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company, serving Brainard and East Nassau and surrounding area, will hold their final monthly breakfast until autumn on Sunday, May 19, from 8 to 11:30 am at the firehouse located on Firehouse Lane behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66N in Brainard.
There will, however, be a breakfast at the firehouse for the benefit of the Cub Scouts on Sunday, June 16, during the same hours and with the same menu so mark your calendars and support the Cub Scouts who are sponsored by the Fire Company.
Breakfast offers your choice of pancakes or French toast served with bacon or sausage, eggs cooked to your order, applesauce and an assortment of breakfast beverages at a cost of $6; children 5 to 12 are served for $3 and those under five are served free.

The Johnsonville Rescue Squad BBQ And Open House

The Johnsonville Rescue Squad located at 4 River Road will be holding a Chicken BBQ/Open house Saturday, May 18, from 4 to 7 pm for National EMS Recognition Week. There will be free blood pressure readings, pulse, blood glucose testing, ambulance tours and fun for the kids. You may eat in or take out. The price is $10 for adults, $5 for  children 6-12.
