Stephentown – Lawrence Edgar Baldwin, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 11, 2012, after a long illness. Born May 5, 1942, in Troy, NY, he lived most of his life in the Berlin-Stephentown area. Larry was a member of the Laborer’s Local #452 and #190 construction unions since 1962. He helped build many roads, bridges and buildings in the area. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying every minute. Larry loved hunting, fishing, gardening and his dogs.

Wednesday, June 30, 1824: This morning I rode up to S. Pardie’s, He is one of the town school Commissioners, to see when they meet and then I went over to our Rodgers farm hoeing potatoes. This afternoon Mr. John Russel sent his boy Frederick after me to come and go to meet the commissioners. I took my horses and wagon and carried Mr. John Russel up to Simon Cranston’s where the commissioners met. The other two were Rowland Mosely and Rutus Rose. We went to be set to the school house at the meeting house, but we was opposed by part of our district and the meeting adjourned.

Cherry Plain Cell Tower – Can You Hear Me Now?

Two and a half years after the Berlin Zoning Board cleared the way for a cell tower in Cherry Plain residents and travelers are finally getting a signal from that tower. The tower remained bereft of any antenna for a year and a half until Verizon finally installed their equipment this past summer. Chris Ciolfi of Mariner Towers LLC, who put the structure up back in late 2010, said he had heard that Verizon had recently activated their antenna. He did not know why it took so long, but he believed that cell phone reception along the Route 22 corridor should now be “dramatically improved.”

Election Results In Eastern Rensselaer Towns

In Eastern Rensselaer County the Towns of Hoosick and Stephentown voted for President Obama on Tuesday – 53% in Hoosick and 54% in Stephentown – similar to results county-wide in Rensselaer County.
