The Berlin Fire Company Goes Green

The Berlin Fire House has gone hi-tech. Last week an 80 panel solar array was installed on the building’s large south facing roof. “It was a no-brainer. We won’t walk away with the farm, but we are saving a considerable amount of money,” said Bruce Hake, President of the Berlin Fire Company.

Patire Closes Up Shop

“The time was right,” said Bruce Patire on Monday, August 20, as he sat in his office in the now closed Patire Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Buick, Inc. “The impetus was when Tinkham Real Estate became part of Prudential Commercial and they approached me. HFCS State Of The Schools Report

The Hoosick Falls School Board has released its “State of the Schools Report” for the 2011-12 school year. The results were mixed, with some solid improvement in SAT results but some weakness in seventh and eighth grade assessments in ELA and Math. The District’s rank on the Capital District Business Review ranking slipped six places from 29th to 35th, although this ranking is based on data from the 2010-2011 school year.

Watersheds In Focus At BCS

Putting America’s Watersheds in FOCUS, a seven city educational tour, is coming to Berlin and Troy, on September 7 and 8.  The centerpiece of the tour is the Wyland Clean Water Mobile Learning Experience, a 1,000 square foot interactive exhibit on wheels, solely dedicated to demonstrating the many ways water shapes our lives – and how our lives are shaped by it. Berlin Youth 2 Youth Looking For Sponsors

Berlin youth involved in the organization Youth 2 Youth Berlin hosted an event called Messy Games on Saturday, August 18, at the Berlin Middle/High School. Thirty-five teens from the surrounding community participated in this day full of fun events which all had the intention of getting them messy! The TRACs coalition sponsored this event and also sponsors the Youth 2 Youth Berlin organization in everything they do.
