Born in 1952 in Hartford, CT, Peter served in the Air Force and graduated from American International College in Springfield, MA, Central Michigan University and Westfield State University in Westfield, MA. He worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a software engineer where he pioneered the development of a workbench tool used in the health information technology standard, HL7.

Bring Your Happy Feet To The Great Schaghticoke Fair
March, skip or dance your way into the great Schaghticoke Fair, Wednesday, August 29, through Monday, September 3. The first ever fair-wide theme will be introduced at the 193rd annual fair. The idea was originated by Homemaking Superintendent, Marilou Town, and Flowers Superintendent, Nancy O’Donnell. The idea of having a fair-wide theme originated in the Family Living Center last year when creative exhibits and entries were displayed. With support from other building superintendents the concept quickly caught on and throughout the week of the fair, there will be Happy Feet signage displayed all over the various buildings and barns. A scavenger hunt for the children will take place daily with information provided at the Family Living Center.

Town Of Sand Lake Is 200 Years Old
On Saturday Westfall Village, half way between West Sand Lake and Averill Park on Rt. 43, will be the end point of the Town of Sand Lake Bicentennial parade. Beginning at 10 am at the former Sand Lake School on Rt. 43, the parade continues to Old Route 66, to Gettle Road and thence back to Rt. 43 and Westfall Village. Hoosick Town Board Action – Highway Superintendent Resigns

A letter of resignation from Town of Hoosick Highway Superintendent Bill Shiland was read at the regular meeting of the Town Board on August 13. Councilman Louis Schmigel wanted to discuss a replacement. Supervisor Keith Cipperly responded that since Shiland had asked the Board in January to appoint Charles Thurber as Deputy Supervisor, he saw no reason that Thurber shouldn’t automatically take over the job until the end of the year. “Bill has confidence in him,” said Cipperly. When asked, Thurber said he had worked for the Highway Department for 17 years.

Stephentown Man Arrested For Alleged Kidnapping

On Tuesday, August 14, the NY State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniform personnel in Schodack investigated a report of a kidnapping on State Route 20 in the Town of Nassau. The investigation into the reported incident revealed that Sean W. Conklin, 24, of 14 Browns Road in Stephentown, broke into a residence on State Route 20 in Nassau at about noon on the 14th and, during a verbal altercation with his ex-girlfriend, forced her into the vehicle he was operating and headed east on State Route 20.

Having successfully passed the mantle of the most dysfunctional town board in eastern Rensselaer County to candidate boards in neighboring towns, the Berlin Town Boarding meeting on Thursday, August 9, was another breezy and brief meeting with no debate and no disagreements. Curiously, for the third meeting in a row not a word was mentioned about the closing of the Berlin Lumber property, which the Town Board voted in January to purchase for use as a municipal center.
