Please come on Saturday, July 28, to the Berlin Fire Hall from 1 to 4 pm for a commemorative observance of the 50th Anniversary of the Berlin Fire Disaster.
There will be memorabilia on display from local media sources, and we will show the DVD program from the 30th year observance.
Our featured speaker will be Ivan Wager, Past Chief of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. and one of the three last surviving firefighters from the 1962 disaster. We anticipate participation from several local residents with recollections of this event.
The public is invited to help us honor those who perished and those who served and to pay tribute to the community who rebuilt after the fire.
Space in the display will be available for anyone willing to share memorabilia. They are encouraged to call 658-2571.

Stephentown Historical Society’s 31st Annual Strawberry Festival

Mostly sunny skies, a light breeze and temperatures in the 70s provided ideal weather for the Stephentown Historical Society’s 31st Annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 24, at The Berry Patch on Route 22. Ten people had picked 120 pounds of strawberries; seven people had hulled them; several people baked homemade biscuits and strawberry-rhubarb pies, and a dozen more served the delicacies. By the end of the five hour festival around 175 people had enjoyed strawberries, shortcake, ice cream, homemade pie and chocolate-covered strawberries under the tent. Letter To The Editor – Separate Treatment For Campground And Speedway
Dear Editor;
I have just read the article in your paper pertaining to the New Lebanon Town Board Meeting of 7-10-2012. A couple of points that I feel are important were not addressed in the article, and I would like to address them now. As a member of the Planning Board in New Lebanon, I have objected on several occasions to both that Board and the Town Board to the “lumping-together” of Howard Commander’s Campground Permit and the Speedway. The Campground and the Speedway operation are two entirely separate entities and must be treated as such when conditions are placed on either.

Letter To The Editor – Before We Move Forward
To the editor:
I would like the residents of Grafton to know that before proceeding with the phase 1 environmental review for Grafton elementary school, I believe this phase 1 environmental report will require Town Board approval due to its cost, which is surely going to exceed the $500 Town spending limit. The Board should know the cost of this phase 1 environmental review up front and PRIOR to any action being taken.
