Stephentown Youth Commission Summer Program Registration

The Stephentown Summer Program, for Stephentown residents only, will run from July 9 through August 17, a six week program for children who have completed kindergarten through the completion of fifth grade. The program will be held at the Stephentown Elementary School. Camp operates from 9 am to 12 pm rain or shine. Campers will participate in many daily activities such as arts and crafts, recreational sports, theme weeks and weekly visits to the Stephentown Memorial Library.

North Hoosick Fire Dept. Kids Dance

The North Hoosick Fire Department will hold a kids dance on Friday, June 1, from 7 to 10 pm at the fire station on Rt. 22. Students ages 9 to 14, and who attend the locals schools, are invited.
There are only three more dances left in the school year. The last dance is the annual pool dance at the Town of Hoosick community pool in Hoosick Falls on Friday, July 13.  Tickets for the pool dance can only be purchased at the last two regular dances at the firehouse.

Lecture On Herbs In Literature And Legend In New Lebanon

New Lebanon Librarian Jeannie Bogino will present “The Literary Herb: Herbs in Literature, Legend, Myth and Folklore” on Saturday, June 9, at 1 pm at the New Lebanon Library.  This free program, which is oriented to adults and teens, is being offered in conjunction with Mount Lebanon HerbFest weekend.

Friends of the Cheney Library invite the public to Dine Out to Help Out. The event will be held at the Falls Diner, 22 River Road, Hoosick Falls, on Monday, June 11, from 5 to 8 pm. The Falls Dinner has generously offered a portion of the night’s proceeds to expand the programs and services offered by Cheney Library to the community of Hoosick Falls. There will be a 50/50 Raffle and Book Basket Raffles. So please join us for a special night of food and fun at the Falls Diner.

Summer Theater Program In Cropseyville

The Highlight Acting Troupe will be holding a two week Summer Theater Program for children between the ages of 6 and 16. The program will begin on July 9 and end on July 20 and will be held at the Brittonkill District Auditorium, Rt. 2 in Cropseyville. The program runs from 9 am to 3:30 pm daily. The daily activities will include acting, stage movement, choral and solo work. Children should bring a bag lunch and beverage. Kiwanis Spring Homemade BBQ

On Tuesday, June 12, the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis is holding its barbecue. You get homemade potato salad, homemade coleslaw, rolls, cake and fresh barbecued chicken all for a $10 donation.  We start serving at 4:30 pm at the Hoosick Falls Fire Dept.  Take-out are available. Local Students Graduate from Clarkson University

Matthew J. Hartnett of Berlin and Nicholas Paine of Petersburgh graduated from Clarkson University on May 12, 2012. Hartnett earned a bachelor of science in chemical engineering with a chemistry minor. Paine earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.
Presidential Scholar
Nicholas Paine was also named a Presidential Scholar for the spring 2012 semester at Clarkson University.
Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.

Brundige Named To Honors List At SUNYIT

Stephanie Brundige of Petersburgh, majoring in Nursing, has been named to the Honors List for the spring 2012 semester at SUNYIT. A semester grade point average of 3.20-3.59 qualifies full time, matriculated students for inclusion on the Honors List.

Stephentown Texas Hold’em

The Veterans of Stephentown and the Stephentown Fire Department will sponsor a joint Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, June 9, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Letter To The Editor – What To Be Proud Of

To The Editor:
I was asked to offer the opening prayer at the Hoosick Falls Memorial Day Service on behalf of our Ecumenical Association as well as our Church to all our citizens gathered at the park. What an honor. As many of you already know, my dad and most of my aunts and uncles served in combat during World War II. Friends, relatives and neighbors have served before and after that war. Our family came here and have been proud Americans since 1892. After the opening prayer, I left the gazebo to stand with the people; I am glad I left.
