Gormley, Hyde Lead Panthers Through 3-0 Week

The Hoosick Falls boys basketball team had an excellent weekend, playing back to back Friday night and Saturday night games against Tamarac and Mt. Anthony. The Panthers recorded lopsided victories in both games.
On Friday, playing host to the Bengals, the Panther defense held Tamarac to single digit scoring totals in every single quarter. Hoosick Falls did not have any trouble finding the hoop though, having nine different players score in the game en route to the 66-24 win. Senior Alex Lilac led the scoring with 12 points while Ryan Hyde added 11 points.

Panther Bowlers Clinch Southern Division Title

On Wednesday, January 11, the Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated visiting Granville by the score of 4-0. Total pins for Hoosick Falls were 3,571, and total pins for Granville were 2,808. Hoosick Falls now has a record of 46-2 and Granville is now 30-14. The top bowler for Granville was Patrick Loomis with a 219-616. Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Joe Wolfrum 238-659, Bryan Callahan 245-640, Stephen Surdam 214-633, Mitch Andrew 203-581, Josh McCart 199-537 and Mikaela Marbot 207-521. There were some good J.V. scores. Josh Reveal had his season best 222-607, Ken Marbot 214-580, Jordan Colvin 204-553 and Josh Conn 200-541.

Hoosick Falls Wrestling Falls In Last Match

Senior night for the Hoosick Falls wrestling team was even more exciting than normal this year as the dual meet between the Panthers and the Salem Generals came down to the very last match of the night to be decided.

Berlin Central School District 2012-2013 Kindergarten Registration

The Berlin Central School District has begun the process of registering kindergarten students for the 2012-2013 school year. If you have a child who will be five years of age on or before December 1, 2012, please call 658-2127 from January 23 through February 17 between the hours of 8:45 am and 3 pm to make sure your child is listed on our kindergarten register.  This will ensure that you will receive the kindergarten registration packet by mail.  All registration paperwork including a copy of your child’s birth or baptismal certificate and proof of residency must be hand delivered to Berlin Elementary School by March 30, 2012.  Drop off times are between 8:30 am and 3:45 pm, Monday through Friday.

Boy Scout Troop 222 Needs Your Help

It has come to the attention of local Boy Scout Troop 222 out of Petersburgh that the Salvation Army is in great need of donations consisting of gently used clothing and household items. We will be holding a collection drive at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center on Route 2 in Petersburgh from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 4, when the Salvation Army truck will be here.
If you can’t make it to our drive and still wish to donate, you may call Scoutmaster Jim Akers at 658-0872 or 728-0352 to schedule a pick-up time.

January Events At The New Lebanon Library

The New Lebanon Library will hold the following January events. All of these events are free and will take place at the Library which is located at 550 State Route 20.
January 20 – An Evening of Jazz Standards – 6:30 pm. Music from the Great American Songbook performed by the Bronte Roman Jazz Ensemble.
January 21 – Chess Instruction for Kids – 10 am. Instruction for kids, but players of all ages and levels are welcome.

Stephentown Book Group Meeting

The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read Homer & Langley by E.L. Doctorow for their meeting on Thursday, February 2. Recluse brothers Homer and Langley Collyer live in their family’s once grand Fifth Avenue mansion in New York City during the first half of the 20th century. One is blind, the other mad. Doctorow recreates the mythic flow of history through their unique lives.
Meetings are held in the Community Room at the Stephentown Memorial Library, Main Street, Stephentown, from noon to 1 pm.  Bring a lunch if you like. Copies of the book are available at the library desk. New readers are always welcome. For more information, call 518-733-5750.

Fire Prevention In The Home For Seniors

Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, January 28, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 37 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
