Grafton Town Board Action – Tangled Finances

Grafton Supervisor Frank Higgins had a lot of activity to report on this month.
He said the IRS had initiated a compliance check because they did not receive a quarterly report for the second quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013. He said the new bookkeeper had completed and sent the missing reports, but there is a possibility that the IRS will fine the Town for the tardy reports.

The Rensselaer County Legislature – Two Eastwick Families Recognized For Achievement

Two families from the Eastwick area came to the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature on Tuesday to receive copies of resolutions passed at earlier sessions. One was the extended family behind two very successful enterprises in North Hoosick, J.A. Bradley and Hoosick True Value Hardware. The other was the family of Reverend William O’Dell of Grafton, whose life was memorialized by the Legislature at the adjournment of the July meeting.

Berlin Town Board Action – Possible Tenants For The Old Town Garage

The only proposal to rent the old Berlin Town Garage on Route 22 next to the former Bank of America property in response to the Town’s published requests was opened at the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, August 8. The proposal to rent the premises for $700 per month was made by two local businesses together, Lawrence King of Eagle Energy, Inc. whose offices are slightly north on Route 22 in the former True Value Hardware store site, and Duane Goodemote Excavating, Goodermote has done much of the bridge and culvert repairs for the Town in recent years. The offer will form the basis for negotiating a commercial lease agreement between the Town and the two companies which would like to move into the facility on October 1.

Stephentown Landmark To Reopen

The bar known as the Stephentown Hotel has been shut down for some time now, but it’s about to begin a new chapter in its long and storied life. Local residents Jennifer and Tim Austin have purchased the property and plan to reopen it in the fall as the Stephentown Trading Post – sort of a café, a market and a resale and consignment shop all in one.
