Cherry Plain, NY – In loving memory, Allen Wayne “Hooter” Alderman, age 58, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was born on September 1, 1954, in Troy, NY, to Rodney Alderman and Joanne Mooney Simmons.
Allen grew up in Berlin, NY. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1972. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army in Troy. He served in the Army for nine years with the 82nd Airborne Division on the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
Allen was a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington, VT. He loved deer hunting, fishing, watching western movies, playing baseball/softball and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Jets fan.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Alderman, and his first wife, Audrey Kimball Alderman.
Allen is survived by his mother, Joanne Mooney Simmons, his stepmother, Judith Perham, his fiancé, Florence Church, his former wife, Ann Smith, his brothers, David, Scott and Eric Alderman and Tom Baldwin, Jr., his sisters Theresa Stevens, Tammy Perham, Michelle Brown, Kimberly Stuckman and Tammy Carollo, his sons, Corey and Randy Alderman and Casey Kimball, his daughter, Christina Alderman, six grandchildren, Samantha, Alex, Eva, Audrey, Charlie and Carly, his loving nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service with full military honors was held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY, on July 16 at 1 pm by the United States Army and cemetery volunteers.
A local memorial service will be held at the Berlin Baptist Cemetery in Center Berlin, NY, on July 20 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Baylor College of Medicine Office of Development, 1 Baylor Plaza MS: BCM160, Houston, TX, 77030. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh, NY.

Four Arrested In Alcohol Sting In The Eastwick Area

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in the Eastwick area on Saturday, July 6 and several local businesses were caught in the sting. A Petition Calling For A Referendum On The New Lebanon Sidewalk Project Is Ignored

Back in May the Town of New Lebanon held a second public hearing on the proposed sidewalk project that would build a 1.5 mile walking route through the Town’s business district at a cost of either maybe $1.5 million or maybe $3 million depending on whom one consults, nobody knows for certain.
At that meeting some residents wondered if the project would be put to referendum. Some felt it could be rather expensive; some felt it could be rather invasive, and many felt it will probably be both.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Local Law On Foreclosed Properties Tabled

The Town of Hoosick Board met at 6:45 on Monday, July 8, for a Public Hearing on Local Law #1 regarding maintenance of foreclosed properties. Questions were asked by Dennis Casey and others as to whether the law dealt with all Town properties and/or Village properties. The answer was no, the law dealt strictly with Town foreclosed properties that were not being maintained by the Banks that now owned them. Fond Memories Of GES

It was sort of like a memorial service. But instead of remembering a beloved person who has passed away, it was the Grafton School that was sadly being put to rest, yet with a lot of fond memories recalled. Approximately 50 people attended the event on Saturday, June 22, that was billed as the opening of the Grafton School time capsule. Those attending included former students, faculty and staff, members of the community and members and officers of the Grafton Community Library and the Grafton Historical Society.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Historic Images

It’s summer in New Lebanon. Too nice to be sitting inside at Town Board meetings and so New Lebanon’s Town Board breezed through its monthly meeting Tuesday night, the Town Hall’s new air conditioner contributing the only uproar of the night as it cycled on and off.
