Grafton Planning Board Action – Nanospheres At GES

Michael Dadachov of Corpuscular. Inc, a microsphere and nanosphere laboratory and production company, has entered into a contract with the Berlin School District to purchase the Grafton Elementary School building and five acres of land surrounding it. He applied for a site plan review for a change of use for the school property at the Grafton Planning Board meeting on Monday, July 15. Petersburgh Town Board Action – Boil Water Order Is Lifted

At the Petersburgh Town Board meeting on Monday, July 15, Town Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst announced that the Boil Water Order for the Petersburgh Water District had been lifted on Wednesday, July 10, after seven water samples taken from different locations around the District were all found to be clean. It is not known how bacteria got into the one sample which triggered the Boil Water Order. Water District Operator Ben Krahforst guesses that it was a “bad sample.”

Stephentown Town Board Action – A Resurgence Of Community Spirit

There seems to be a resurgence of community spirit in Stephentown. Following the opening of three new businesses in Town recently – Cinch’m Up Stables, the Beer Diviner Taproom & Market and Knuckleheads Restaurant – a Beautification Committee is now being formed. The latter was instigated by a most generous offer from Burt and Alice Swersey to donate hundreds of trees and shrubs from their Shadowbrook Nursery – a business now being phased out – to beautify the downtown area. Berlin Town Board Action – Chickens Rule

Chickens ruled the roost momentarily at the Berlin Town Board meeting on July 11 for the second Board meeting in a row. Last month it was chickens killed by dogs; this month it was former Town Board Member George Shuhart complaining about  chickens in the road. “Don’t you eat chicken?” Doug Goodermote asked him. “What are all those chickens doing at Stewart’s?” asked Board Member John Winn, a question that befuddled Shuhart until he realized he was being teased for, allegedly, spending a lot of time in the Stewart’s in the village. After the meeting Shuhart invited folks down to Stewart’s for a cup of coffee.

Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – The Word Is Out

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, July 16, Mayor David Borge read a letter from Amanda Patten’s second grade class at St. Mary’s Academy requesting improvements to the crosswalk markings on Parsons Avenue and Classic Street. The rather large beautifully printed petition was signed by all the students. HFCS Reorganization Meeting

Greg Laurin was re-elected as President of the Hoosick Falls Board of Education, and Rick Ferrannini was elected Vice-President, both by unanimous vote of the Board. They were then sworn in, along with the other officers of the School District, and proceeded with the organizational meeting for the upcoming school year. This was the first meeting for newly elected School Board Member Rachel Boisvert, who was warmly welcomed by the Superintendent and the Board President.

Hoosick’s HAYC3 Community Coalition In Contention For National Honor

HAYC3’s Community Coalition is in the running for a prestigious national award from the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America. The award recognizes established coalitions for successfully implementing comprehensive and collaborative strategies to achieve one or more targeted community-level multiple substance abuse programs. It is the highest honor CADCA bestows.
