Stephentown Food Pantry Distributed 47 Christmas Dinners

Christmas dinner bundles were prepared for 47 families served by the Stephentown Food Pantry. The Stephentown Food Pantry volunteers assembled the finished packages with help from the Girl Scouts and many donations from businesses and the community.  The festive and re-useable bags were provided, for the second year, by Blue Q.

Petersburgh Community Rallies For Votra Family

Boy Scout Troop 222 provided several scouts and leaders to help with a spaghetti dinner held at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center for the Votra family on December 14.  Many Community members came together to assist with the fundraiser that Friday night. Since the Votra family lost their house to a fire on November 26 the community has risen to the challenge.  Over 200 meals were served and all the funds raised go directly  to the family.

Arlo Michael Church

Arlo Michael Church, cherished son of Michael and Sadie Church of Troy, NY, passed away at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia shortly following his birth, December 26, 2012.
In addition to his parents he leaves behind a sister, Rebekah Skye Church, grandparents, Pat and Jim Holmes of Troy, Tom and Wendy McLaughlin of Castleton, NY, Peter Church of Hoosick, NY, and Irene Fyfe MacCollar of Belfast, ME, loving great-grandparents and a great number of extended family.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh, NY.
Donations in Arlo’s memory to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia should be forwarded to the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, checks to be made out to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

West Lebanon – Peter Rawson, 73, of Schoolhouse Road, West Lebanon, NY, died peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

New Lebanon – David C. Squier, 82, a resident of New Lebanon, NY, since 1958, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 22, 2012.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lore Squier, his devoted sons, William of Stamford, CT, John of Falmouth Foreside, ME, and Michael Squier of Chatham, NY, and their wives, Beth, Laurette and Rita, and his three loving grandchildren, Craig, Levi and Lauren. He also leaves his sister, Nancy Squier of Upper Montclair, NJ, his in-laws, Georg Oefelein of Moers, Germany, and Annemarie and Richard Benson of Dalton, MA, and their families.

Berlin Takes Possession Of New Municipal Center Property

In January the headline in this paper said, “Berlin Municipal Center Is Reborn With Purchase Of Berlin Lumber – A New Era Begins For Berlin.” Eleven months later this is true. At the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, December 13, Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger announced that the Town would take possession of the Berlin Lumber property in Cherry Plain the next day, Friday, December 14. The property will serve as a municipal center with 7 buildings which will house the Town offices and justice court facilities, a large meeting and community room, a Highway Department office and proper garage space for the Town trucks as well as rental space.
